I can’t insert images so I uploaded images here: https://imgur.com/a/uEc1may

Is this normal? Above the bald spot, is also less fur but had short dark brown fur. There are a few small red spots; don’t know if this was from me brushing or…

This is roughly all along the hips area on the back side. All over, she had really dense fur before and now after grooming, significantly thinner. If this is normal, how much weight loss is acceptable with this type of shed? She was 3.1lbs but now 2.6lbs! I didn’t notice because she was all fur so there was no change in the way she looked except it looked like she had pants so I brushed her quite a bit and then found this afterwards and weighed her. She is acting normal too.

        Thanks

Bald spots can happen during shedding, sometimes from over grooming. But it is very normal to see those short patches of fur revealed as the other fur is brushed out.

The weight loss is unusual, my rabbits don’t lose weight when they shed,  especially not 16% of their bodyweight. I’d be getting her checked out by a bun savvy vet. I had the same thing happen with Luna, she lost a bunch of weight before I noticed. I now weigh my buns regularly.

I agree with Azerane, weight loss with shedding is unusual so I think a visit to the vet is in order.

Weight loss with molt is normal as buns need more energy to grow the fur back. She is also a strict hay eater, because she’s a weirdo, which would also cause more loss. I just don’t know how much is acceptable.

The vet didn’t ask me to go in so I guess at least it’s not an emergency.

We finally got an appointment in the books. She has since gained back a lot of weight so I’m not as freaked out.
