Re: the petting and then the “snap”, it makes me wonder if she actually is enjoying the petting in that instance. My Fable is a very anxious rabbit and there are times when she will receive pets, but body language cues tell me she is not actually enjoying it. If she were a rabbit inclined to biting as a reaction, I imagine she would try and “snap”…[Read more]

Cookie had neutering on July 3rd and was pretty good up to 5 days, he trusted us. He got an eye infection 5 days after the operation and I have been giving him medication 4 times a day for 1 week, I give him medication with the reward system, he was afraid of that drug at first, but he is not afraid anymore. But he still doesn’t trust me, he’s…[Read more]

I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. 🙁

I, too, had my ladies experiencing false pregnancies before I got them spayed as well. They had behaved in ways much like your bun right now. 🙁

What I did, was I separated them – since they were pulling fur from themselves and others – and gave them each a box to start storing their materials…[Read more]

Hmmmm, I wonder if it could have to do with her vision? Rabbits can’t see very well up close, so perhaps she is getting startled when you reach close to her face?

Maybe you could try using a vocal cue or some other sound anytime you are going to give her food (such as a clicker or a kissy noise)? Then she sould hear it and know more food was…[Read more]

Agree with what’s been said so far, and just wanted to add it’s prob for the best that she attacked him if he was just recently neutered, because males can still have sperm in their systems for a couple weeks after neutering!

    You’re welcome!

Yes, pre-bonding means living side by side and swapping sides, but no actual dates.

Maisie will definitely be upset at first, but that is kind of the point! You want her to accept the fact that there is another bunny around (and realize the world isn’t ending because of it) before you actually start dates. It may take a week or…[Read more]

Agree, the bonding template would be helpful so we can get a better sense of what you have tried and not tried so far.

It’s important that you prevent fighting in bonding sessions, so you should be ready to intervene before things escalate to biting. Wearing thick gloves is important so you can get your hands on them if needed.

My Bun Jovi can be an excessive mounter too. What is the bonding space like? I found it helped to give mine a lot of space during the marathoning sessions, along with some hiding spots for my other bun to escape to (things she could hop up on top of were helpful).

I do think it should resolve in a day or two (or at least calm down to a more…[Read more]

It’s best to just let her do her thing, make sure she has nesting material. Allowing her to go through this undisturbed is going to minimize stress.

As far as they spay goes, I think it might be best to stick with your appointment a month from now. I don’t have first hand experience but as far as I recall it is not advised to spay while the…[Read more]

    Congrats on your new bunnies!

They’re getting close to that age where they will hit puberty. They should be separated once they hit 12 weeks of age, as Wick said, even though they are siblings they will mate and/or fight.

The diet sounds good. A rabbit should always act hungry. It’s when a rabbit do3snt act hungry or refuses food that you should worry. As long as he eats hay and has ample hay (and water) available 24/7, he wont starve.

Rabbits can however eat too fast, which should be prevented. They can choke on pellets, which can be fatal. To slow down the…[Read more]

    Hello!

So my bunny Bartholomew is 6 months old currently and I have had him since 11 weeks old. I got him for free from a farm in my area and he is the first bunny I have ever owned so I’m still new to bunny care although I have researched a lot.

When I got him he was already started on veggies but I wasn’t told any other info about his diet. I…[Read more]

E cuniculi is what first comes to mind when a bun has seizures. E cuniculi is a microscopic parasite that affects organs with high blood flow, typically the brain and/or the kidney. The bun can carry the parasite for many years, without any problems, then suddenly a flare-up may occur and the bun becomes symptomatic.

An ear infection, as LBJ also…[Read more]

Hey there, I apologize if my concern has been addressed in a previous post. I tried looking for a similar situation and could not find something that is exactly like mine, also I may be looking for some reassurance (as any bunny owner does lol). Hey guys, it’s been awhile!

Well, my sweet bunn is experiencing a phantom pregnancy. We have her on the wait list to be spayed, but it’s about a month long. I called the vet today to let them know she was experiencing one and they said they’d do their best to bump her up the list.

Yesterday I noticed her picking up huge mouthfuls of hay and…[Read more]

I would definitely suggest having him evaluated by a vet when you can. He seems OK right now, but there’s nothing that says this won’t progress. If these are seizures, then that would be very concerning. Treatment for EC is relatively inexpensive, but you will need a vet to make the diagnosis. Other things can cause seizures as well. Or, if these…[Read more]
