I’ve had him since he was 3 months old, and he’s a little over 5.5 years now. I’m in Jersey, so it does get hot but he’s strictly an indoor rabbit and we always keep the apartment the same temperature.
I was not given pain meds. I was instructed to syringe feed critical care only until he resumed eating, which after giving him the medicine…[Read more]

Sorry in advance for a stream of consciousness list of questions!
How long have you had him? Just wonder if this is a new change in a bun you’ve had a long time, or a newer bunny? Is it very hot where you are? The heat can really mess with bunnies.
Were you also given pain meds? It’s very important to have pain meds along with motility meds.…[Read more]

Simethicone is sold as baby gas drops at pharmacies. Some vets are on board with it, some aren’t (LOL), but it has a lot of anecdotal support in the bunny community!

Glad she is doing better! Buns can certainly be particular about their hay. Mine are used to getting hay from a bale, and whenever I’ve had to buy bagged pet store hay they turn their little noses up at it!
With proper diet and exercise she will get to a healthy weight naturally. Usually the recommendation is to reduce or eliminate pellets, but…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunny not eating: when to go to the vet? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 11 months ago
Hmmm, this is a tough one. It can take a while for stasis treatments to work, and a lot of advice says to have some patience and allow things to work before trying additional aggressive treatments. I think expecting eating in 4-5 hours is a high expectation if the stasis is serious. I know some vets will keep a rabbit at the clinic until they…[Read more]

Some bunnies enjoy being in a pet stroller if you’re looking to go for a “walk”.

I set them up in a ex pen last evening and my plan was to keep them in there until there was a scuffle. There was no scuffles surprisingly! It lasted the whole night and is still going… they are bonded! They are grooming, cuddling, everything!!!

LBJ10 covered the eating and drinking but I wanted to know more about the space the bunny has how big is it?

My bunny Tanu-kun is 1 year old. I was giving hay this morning and he didn’t run over like usual. He was hunched in a corner, refused all his treats etc so I brought him to the vet (an apparently rabbit savvy exotic vet) who saw us at noon.
The vet did a whole physical, said he couldn’t find anything wrong, and gave us some pain meds and gut mot…[Read more] -

Thank you both for your responses. It has been very difficult for our family without Peri, she had so much personality and will be missed.
We went on a hay run today and picked up more varieties of hay (I dont know where I’m going to store them all now), we bought some timothy hay cubes but I think the winner is probably the Oxbow Orchard hay (we…[Read more]

It has been a while since you posted. How is the bunny doing now? Has he eaten anything? Has he pooped?
Sudden disinterest in favorite treats is usually a sign of gas or gastric distress. Gas causes pain in their stomach and that makes them not want to eat anything. Sometimes bunnies can work the gas out on their own and they start eating again.…[Read more]

I don’t believe it is a dental issue as he will eat a whole rack of hay daily with no issue, and same goes for his now 1/4 cup of pellets.
As far as the medicine, he was given metoclopramide and cisapride. He got 0.3 mL of these twice daily for 5 days after the initial vet visit, and then I was instructed I could stop so long as he resumed…[Read more]

Its very good that you brush him every day when he is molting.
At 5.5 years, the first thing that comes to mind is a dental problem. Molar spurs are a common problem in rabbits. They dont have to be very pronounced in order to cause pain in a sensitive rabbit.
I doubt there is a problem with the pellets. If a rabbit has a dental issue, it will…[Read more]

Hello! I have a 6.5 lbs, 5.5 year old male, Holland Lop Mix. About a month and a half ago he had his first ever bout of GI-stasis. I immediately recognized the signs and took him to the vet where I was given medications for him. I have since reduced his pellet intake (Oxbow Adult Rabbit Essentials) from about a 1/2-3/4 of a cup to 1/4 of a cup…[Read more]
