Last night at about 7 PM-8 PM we lost Thumper. When we brought Blossom’s ashes home yesterday he took a dramatic turn, it got to the point where he kept face planting in the floor and he let me hold his chin and lift his head up a couple of times. He was dropped off at the vets and the vet said that he probably had a medical thing going on as well…[Read more]

Neutering has it’s benefits. But there are not the same health implications since testicular cancer is rare (and uterine cancer is common). So convincing family members to have a pet neutered when they are worried about their “manhood” can be difficult.
I would start by explaining that a neutered bunny is easier to live with. Neutering cuts down…[Read more]

Dana gave you some wonderful advice. I agree that there is no shame in rehoming, especially if it is so she can have a better life. But it has also only been a day or so. I don’t think there is anything wrong with waiting a few weeks to see how things go.
Being completely honest here… I think everyone goes through that “OMG, what did I just…[Read more]

I think it’s admirable that you are being honest with yourself, and I don’t think there is any shame in rehoming or returning her if you realize a rabbit just isn’t the right pet for you. Far too often rabbits suffer because people are too ashamed to get help, or they are impulse buys that are abandoned, especially this time of year.
BUT, I also…[Read more]

Unless you are feeding a pellet that’s specifically meant to be free-fed, like Sherwood Forest, that way of feeding pellets will likely lead to obesity and not enough hay consumption, which then leads to other issues like dental problems.
I recommend starting to scale back her pellets to a measured amount each day. May sure she is also eating hay…[Read more]

Thumper has a vet appointment on Monday, it’s the earliest they can get us in. My mom tried to get us in tonight or tomorrow but there’s no openings

I just bought more hay.
What I have been doing in the past, I would buy clumps of hay and let her tear it up because she loves doing that. I would then have the pellets in a large gravity feeder and let herself regulate.
I have an image, but it won’t attach for some reason.

I’ve been in your situation before, it’s awful. I had a landlord flip out on us because of some chewed baseboards (even though all of our bunnies were in the lease and we were going to pay for the repairs) and I had to put them into temporary foster care while we found a new place to live. It was incredibly stressful but bunnies are very resilient…[Read more]

I agree with the above. True allergies are pretty rare in rabbits, and they are usually only diagnosed after an infection is thoroughly ruled out.

I’m so happy to hear he’s doing so well! What a lovely update!
You did amazing with him, hindsight is always 20/20 as they say. EC is a pretty insidious disease so definitely don’t beat yourself up about not treating for it sooner. I had the same struggle with my bun, as I thought he just had worsening arthritis for months, turns out he also had…[Read more]

Thanks for responding, I actually do wish to get my rabbit neutered to avoid these behaviors because I don’t really him spraying all over the house. He isn’t actually super territorial, every act of disposing waste he goes into his cage to do it but it’s always during spring he gets mating behavior and I don’t really like it a lot because he…[Read more]
