I know it’s been a few months since I chimed in, but we’re still in the dating process. It’s been about 6 months. We date up t0 6 hours at a time at this point before I need some sort of mental stimulation. lol
Smudge and Rascal aren’t necessarily friendly toward each other, but they don’t show aggression toward each other. Smudge will visit…[Read more]

Yes, food aggression is not uncommon. Some rabbits are particular tunnel-visioned with food…. crazy buns, haha.
As long as it’s resolving– that is fine; however, if it is continuous until you give them the food, that can be problematic because maybe you drop the bag one day or maybe they are misreading cues and you’re not actually going to…[Read more]

Cleaning the litterbox frequently is important, and also ensuring you have an appropriately sized litterbox is important too! Rabbits can poop 100+ times a day, so if a litterbox is too small, shallow, etc., one day of build up can be “not clean” for a while. Air circulation/ventilation is also really important so it’s not getting too humid (which…[Read more]

First off, take a deep breath! All of this is normal and it’s very likely they will bond just fine! It may take some time, but they will get there. I’m assuming no bun was actually injured in the fight? As long they are both fine you are good to keep going.
And yes it’s really normal to see some tense and aggressive behavior when you first start…[Read more]

A little bit if mucus can come from irritation of the intestinal lining. The beass-on-a-string poop means there’s a bit of gut slowdown. This could be due to excessive ingestion of hair and its common when a bun is molting. It is molting-season now and it’s good if you can brush your bun to get loose hair off.
I’d just keep an eye, have some gas…[Read more]

Hello, my 6-month old bunny had the tiniest bit of mucus(?) in her poop today, a picture attached below. I’m not exactly sure if this is mucus or something else, it is clear-ish and jelly-like. A couple of days ago, she also had the smallest bit of mucus in her poop, even less than the one in the picture. Apart from those two instances, she has…[Read more]

If they ARE fruit flies, then they are harmless. The will lay eggs on certain types of litter, but the litter would need to be moist to attract them. Cleaning the litter box more often would solve the problem. Thinking back to genetics class… fruit flies turn into adults about 14 days or so after hatching.
And yes, there are other…[Read more]

If anyone is knowledgable about bonding, your help/input would be GREATLY appreciated.
The short version of my question I am looking to have answered is – is it normal for a first rabbit to behave unusually aggressive and on edge while pre-bonding? He chins everything like crazy, and has even lunged at my boyfriend while trying to add some hay to…[Read more]

I have been dealing with the same issue with Cooper and Bonnie! It is incredibly annoying but it is pretty common and I don’t think it’s a huge issue, as long as they go back to normal after.
With my two, I’ve opted to wait to lock them in until after the pellets are actually on the ground so they aren’t running around in the pen. I’m also…[Read more]

Hey
So Nellie and Glenn have had a solid bond for some months now. They are very loving and relaxed with eachother. They are fine when getting treats, hay, morning pellets and veg but when I give them their nighttime forage they are a little aggressive. I know food aggression can be common in pairs but I’m just after some reassurance I guess.

are you certain they are fruit flies? If so they are likely coming from somewhere else in your home, they wouldn’t be attracted to hay or the bunny boxes. There are also these little gnats that can breed in sink drains etc. There are other types of small flies that can be a risk for buns (flystrike), but really only if the buns have feces stuck to…[Read more]

Anyone have issues with fruit flies from either hay or literbox? We changed the liter box once a day and replenish hay 2x a day… recently i’ve noticed an increase in fruit flies… i’m wondering if it has anything to do with these two things.. anyone have these issues and what did you do?
