LBJ10 replied to the topic Pros and cons of a bunny room? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 2 years, 7 months ago
Another upside to a bunny room is that I found it was easier to clean. You’re not reaching into a condo, for example. Everything was movable too, so I could easily vacuum and put things back. They would, of course, rearrange to their liking afterward because I was incapable of putting things back just right.

Some buns are a lot more reactive than others! My Cooper is like this, especially if it’s very quiet in the house. A small noise will trigger him to sound the alarm! I usually do some voice reassuring but just leave him be. He tends to go back to normal quickly.
If you notice this happening a lot, adding some white noise (like a fan or quiet…[Read more]

FYI there are two formulas for Emeraid. One is the acute, immediate recovery formula, recommended for buns after surgery. The one I feed Bun Jovi called “Sustain” and is recommended for longer term supplemental feeding.

Are you talking about for permanent set up (“home base”), or exercise space? And do you have 1 bunny or two?
A 4 x 4 pen OK for 2 bonded bunnies for a home base but it is not big enough if they spend 100% of their time there (the HRS guidelines are 8 sq ft the cage, and 24 sq ft for exercise). Buns should get at least a few hours of exercise per…[Read more]

Thank you, that makes me feel better! I did offer him some arugula during this too, and he gladly took that, then I got to thinking I didn’t want him to associate arugula with being scared, and THEN I decided I was an overthinking psycho and headed here 😂

Oh dear, please do update us after you hear from the vet! Abscesses can pop up seemingly overnight. 🙁

That’s great she loves CC! Lots of good things in there to help her gut.

Thumping is not rare 🙂
I think you did great. Since rabbits are flight animals, they tend to hate being lifted up or even touched when they’re scared. It just stresses them out further. Imo its better to talk to them in a calm, normal voice and to offer a small treat.
Offering a treat is good because it’s not just soothing, it’s also a way for…[Read more]

I’ve had my bun for about two months and he’s about five months old, and I only sort of know what I’m doing 🙂 He seems comfortable with me, and will run to me, circle my feet, and hop on my lap, and will usually welcome head and back rubs. This morning something TERRIFIED him, and he booked it back to his cage and began thumping. I’d been working…[Read more]

It great that she eats CC! Mixed CC contains a lot of water, so while she’s on CC, she doesn’t need to drink very much.
Hopefully she’ll keep improving, but if refusal to eat persist beyond a few days, you should seek veterinary care to try and figure out what’s wrong.

Update: I finally got the critical care in the mail and she gobbled it up! I hope this helps her tummy faster. She still isn’t drinking as much as I would like

Update:
Tonight I have just noticed that Budja’s has developed another abscess which seems to have moved to the left and underneath to the prior abscess area and is now directly underneath her jaw, the original surgery site is completely flat and healed perfectly even after suture removal, so I am a bit stumped as to how there is another one…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic How can I tell if he's losing his hearing? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 7 months ago
Yes, anything novel. Sometimes bunnies ignore sounds that they are used to hearing, so you won’t get much of a response anyway. If it is something they haven’t heard before, they will often react… if they can hear it, of course.

I had a friend come over recently. And they told me that my bunnies need more room! I didn’t know how to respond to that. They are in exercise pens made for dogs. And my girl does a lot of zoomies in hers. Sometimes she binkies! But they are 4ft by 4ft which I know is the bare minimum. They do get playtime when it’s not too hot or too cold in the…[Read more]

I tried looking for a party horn. But I can’t find any. Would a loud clicker do? My older half sister gave me her old one and I tried it. It was pretty loud. Neither of my bunnies heard that sound before.

Thank you for all your help and suggestions. I will try them. I just bought rabbit igloos from Chewy and they are ventilated. I have hay down for them in boxes that they lay in too.
I guess they just like to get under the blankets during the day.

Thank you so much, Bam!! This is great to know.
Yes, Teddy does really like having his ears brushed with the baby brush. We’ve been doing that and then rubbing with the rosewater wipes afterwards. Now I’ll try finishing off with the coconut oil or a propylene glycol lotion if I can find it here.
Thanks so much again!! 🙂
