At this point I am actually suspecting that she may have an underlying medical issue going on. Since this has been going on several days I would actually try to see your vet. 1 tablespoon of pellets per day is not very much. She could be having a dental issue that is making her not want hay, and you need to make sure she eats enough so she doesn’t…[Read more]

This is all so familiar. 🙁 I reached basically the same conclusion about laser and acupuncture. Maybe they would have been helpful to start a year ago, but at this point I don’t think it would be worth the stress because Bun hates the car and being handled, so whatever marginal benefit he might get would probably not be worth it. As far as his…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic My Bunny Having Seizures? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 7 months ago
You should definitely take her to the vet. It does sound like a seizure. I don’t recommend trying to syringe her anything during one of these episodes, as she could aspirate. They can be caused by E cuniculi, which can cause progressive damage to the nervous system and kidneys if left untreated. So yes, please have her seen by a rabbit savvy vet ASAP.

As far as the injections, I don’t recall it being any more expensive than a standard oral antibiotic treatment.
From everything I’ve read on abscesses, you have the best chances of curing them completely if you are as aggressive as possible with treatment as early in the process as possible. With my bun, it was surgically cleaned out and then…[Read more]

So, the surgical site seems to have healed pretty good and it kind of felt a little bit lumpy underneath the stitch area a few days ago which I put down to the skin, but I’ve noticed that almost a line of lumpy dense like material has formed right back onto that right side of her jaw again, it hasn’t quite grown in a hard circular lump as usual…[Read more]

Hi, I recently got a lionhead i named clover. She was doing great until one day, she stopped playing and running and started shaking. She completely lost her balance, and couldn’t even move. I Found her waterbowl completely full, when i had filled it up the night before. We got a dropper and got some water into her, and then she was fine. We…[Read more]

I think its wise to try cutting back on the pellets to entice her to eat more hay. You should monitor closely though. Preferably weigh her every day. Any radical weight loss is cause for concern. After three days max, up the foodss she will eat again, so as to prevent a bad outcome. This is important, but if you are cautious, fully…[Read more]

I have two cages im using for my bunnies for bonding, i got them at petco. They are 3 2 in by 32 in, and as long as you let the bunnies out for excersize it is plenty of space. THey were also very affordable, $20 each. you couldnt use them outdoors but they are awesome inside!!

So I bought her a small bag of hay from the 3 different brands I’m able to get in the store here. She will not eat from any of them. One is orchard just in another brand since she loves oxbows orchard so much and its not available in the stores near me. I’m going to leave her with them for the rest of the day and hope she will eat it. If not I’m…[Read more]

Any grass hay is ok for buns. You just want to avoid legume hay (alfalfa and clover) for adult buns, because its so rich in calcium and protein. If you have access to pesticide-free grass, you could give her a tiny bit (needs to be introduced slowly like any new food, but you can increase the amount gradually and it will be a great “replacement”…[Read more]

Sorry to post here again. This morning everything was fine and I had found a bag of orchard hay that had a little handful left that I gave her until I could get to the store for more hay and she ate it all. Then all of a sudden she went and hid in her hideout and now she wont eat her breakfast salad, only the pellets. She also wont take her daily…[Read more]

She’s still not eating it today even after reducing her pellets so I’m going to go get her another kind. One of the only other kinds available in the store near me is the brand Dumor. Im a little nervous to try it because I have tried it in the past 2 times and the first time my guinea pig stopped eating and the 2nd pumpkin got stasis. Could the…[Read more]

Both Medirabbit and The House Rabbit Society warns about the use of gentamicin in rabbits. Medirabbit says best avoided, the HRS says use with extreme caution.

I’m so sorry to hear this! My bunnies also wouldn’t let me brush or comb them for most of their lives, so I would just try to wet my hands slightly before petting them, to try to get some loose fur off that way.
But lately, Teddy has actually really enjoyed being groomed with a soft baby brush (like for human babies). It’s very mild and I t…[Read more]

Hello again! So the vet did think his teeth were causing him a bit of discomfort, but she said that at this stage she would hesitate to recommend a molar trim (though it was up to us). So we are leaning against that, but what do you think?
She did think adding tramadol was a good idea, so we took that home and are going to start him on it t…[Read more]

After discovering that my bun had some inflamed skinned on his upper arm, my vet prescribed a Gentamicin/Betamethasone topical spray. I couldn’t find much online about its use on rabbits, and am a little concerned that he will lick it when applied. I just don’t want him to experience any negative side effects (e.g. upset stomach/diarrhea). Has…[Read more]

That is what I’ve been reading, I think I would be more afraid of my bunny being skittish while receiving the shot and moving, she is quite skittish. Was it very costly? That’s another concern. I know they can give weekly Penicillin injections they have readily available there I’m not sure if that’s the same kind of thing or not, but to get the…[Read more]
