Adrienne started the topic Sore on Bennett's nostril in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 3 months ago
Hello! I discovered this sore on Bennett’s nostril tonight and I was wondering if anyone might know what it could be? If it’s fungal, perhaps I can treat at home? Is polysporin an option to try, as it’s triple antibiotic? Being so close to his mouth, is that advised? Any advice is…[Read more]

The vacuum is too loud for me. However my parents did it for me and my stepmom said that there were no reactions from him. Or my girl though I know my girl can hear. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Jrw89! I am glad to hear that your Hugh is healing from his hock sore. Do you have him in a confined area to make sure he is only on those materials? If so, what do you do when you want to let him out to play? I am only asking because my bunny is a free roam bunny and I am struggling to find ways to make the flooring in the house suitable to her feet.

Thank you so much for your tips Dana! Do you think it is enough to have a rug with a carpet pad underneath it? That is what I put her on since she got the sores (she used to be on a very thin carpet over hard wood, no pad underneath it). I have heard about the fleece/vetbed before but I just don’t know how to achieve this since she is a free roam…[Read more]

prince dorian the bun replied to the topic Need advice for Dorian post surgery in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 3 months ago
Luckily he pooped. Yay for poop! So I am going to pick him up and take him home. He will need a lot of care, which I am hoping I can manage. Hopefully he will recover faster in the comfort of home though.

Dorian is currently in the hospital and I am anxiously waiting to 3 – 4pm when I can call for another status update. I am worried that he may not do well there all alone without Miu or us to keep him company. But at same time, I don’t have the equipment or knowledge to deal with an emergency. When he had an xray yesterday he was not in stasis…[Read more]

<p style=”padding-left: 40px;”>Best of luck, it’s amazing how hard you and your doctor are working on treating these abscesses, all you can do is your very best. My bunny Rain also had recurrent abscesses and passed away recently as a result of those abscesses preventing her from eating anything at all without choking, she got very weak despite e…[Read more]

Thanks. He’s still not eating or pooping, so no chance of taking him home until that changes. I mean I could, but for best outcome I think keeping him there where he can get IVs and emergency care seems like the safest course. I’m hoping he has some poops soon. So scary.

My Hugh’s just healing from his first sore hock at 9 and a half. He’s only on carpet and fleece and foam bath mats are very good. So this must have been the wood litter in his tray. Now only have this around the edges of his tray and in the middle a puppy pad then all covered in hay, when before the hay was only at the back. Week and a half of cha…[Read more]

Hey There Delilah started the topic Sneezing rabbit in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 3 months ago
Over the last few days, I have noticed that my rabbit has started sneezing on a regular basis when she never used to. I cleaned her cage thoroughly but she is still sneezing and there isn’t anything new in the house that I can think would cause this. She will sneeze a few times a day and rub her nose too. I have not noticed any discharge from her…[Read more]

Oh no! I’m sorry Dorian has been unwell! Poor little guy. 🙁 I agree with Bam. Don’t beat yourself up about “unnecessary” surgery. I think anyone here would have done the same thing given the information you had.

Fingers so crossed for his swift recovery!
Stasis it itself commonly causes elevated liver enzymes. It has to do with the body starting to consume its own body fat for energy. This can easily overwhelm the rabbit’s liver.
My bun Vilde had elevated liver enzymes when he had stasis. I too took him in the first day he presented with symptoms…[Read more]

Thanks Bam.
He got through surgery. There ended up being no torsion so they just took a biopsy. Not sure what is causing elevated liver enzymes yet. There didn’t appear to be any tumors or such that they could see. I feel a bit bad making him go through surgery, but if it was a torsion it would have been better to catch it early and maybe th…[Read more]

I have no personal experience with LLT, but we have had several members whose buns survived it. It’s wonderful that your vet has done LLT surgery before.
The prognosis depends a lot on how big a portion of the liver that is affected. Early detection is very important, and you did detect it early.
I guess you have already found…[Read more]

Poor little boop didn’t eat his breakfast and I initially suspected just another case of gas. But at one point he flopped and started shivering and I knew something was wrong so I called the vet immediately. Luckily they could get us in within an hour (which is how long it takes to get there). Vet also thought just gas initially, as xray showed a…[Read more]

Since she’s still young, maybe you could try mixing in some alfalfa hay for her? Its not recommended for adult buns, but since she’s on a low pellets-regimen, a little bit of alfalfa is unlikely to add an excess of protein and calcium. Alfalfa has good fiber and buns often like it a lot.
Exercise also helps the intestines move. Rabbits tend to…[Read more]

She’s been mostly pellet free for awhile now per my vet’s recommendation to keep her out of stasis and she’s been pooping normally with not issues. I do give her pellets as treats in about a tsp per day. She seems to have a very sensitive gut so she’s had few minor Stasis episodes since her original one. I was feeding her Oxbow Garden Select…[Read more]

Smaller poop can simply be less food intake, so if she’s eating somewhat less hay, that would be contributing to it. Unsure if this was mentioned in a previous post, but for what reason is your rabbit on a pellet-free diet? For her age, pellet-free is definitely not recommended, nor is it recommended in general. You mention she recently came out…[Read more]
