Yes I was going to suggest Emeraid, critical care, or the sherwood recovery food, whichever Dorian likes best! My buns all love Emeraid, they are divided on the sherwood, and only Cooper likes critical care haha. You can also make “critical care cookies” if Dorian doesn’t like mush.

Sorry you are going through this. I agree with Bam, I doubt anything you did (or that he got into) would have caused this. One thing I wonder, is whether his hay intake may have declined a bit and you didn’t notice? I ask because my dental abscess bun was absolutely ravenous for pellets and salad because he wasn’t eating as much hay as he should…[Read more]

This is, as you know, concerning and needs to be checked by a vet. Getting into junior pellets or energy drink a few times could not have caused it. Rabbits can actually get caries, but not after a few exposures to sugar.
So whatever this is, you didnt cause it. His diet seems great. It’s great that he still has a good appetite for hay.

Feeding CC would be good, and my current vet recommends this over increasing pellets too much since CC is formulated to be more well-balanced than pellets, so it’s addition is less likely to cause any upset.

It is truly lovely when a skittish bun suddenly realises that they’re safe 💗 It can be a long journey though, my Bam (also a stray) needed a whole year before he started to come out of his shell.

I had good result with adding some rolled oats (porridge oats) to my Vilde, who was a hard keeper. Rabbits often love rolled oats, its easy on the tummy and gives good energy. A few sunflower seeds and/or pumpkin seeds could also be beneficial. I have a young fosterbun who was very skinny when I got him due to a situation where his brother hadn’t…[Read more]

It could be a endometrial aneurysm thats causing the bleed. It should be considered as a differential in young unspayed does that presents with bleeding from the uterus. My rabbit savvy vet held a lecture for our rabbit wellfare society in November 2021 where she mentioned this.
A full spay is curative if its about venous malformations in the…[Read more]

Boo has always been so skittish, probably typical for a bunny picked up as a stray.
Last few weeks she is just so much more chill. Stays splayed out when we walk by, even the dogs.
Nice to know she finally feels relaxed and safe!

Thanks, Dana and LBJ! We have been looking for a vet who understands rabbits ever since we got her but have had little luck so far. this vet is the best we have come across in the last 2 years, so unlikely that we will find someone better / more experienced.

Dorian is recovered from stasis and sur, but lost about .1 kg. His appetite is not back at 100%, at least not for hay. He eats it just not quite as enthusiastically as before. I have been a little more generous with pellets with him (he usually gets about 8th cup, and adding about a teaspoon more). Anything else I can do to help him gain some weight back?

Considering her age, it could be an infection in the uterus. Cancer is also a possibility. Either way, the best course of action is to have her spayed. I realize that there are not many rabbit savvy vets there. If finding one with more experience isn’t possible, then I agree with Dana that attempting the surgery is better than not treating it at all.

Miu, my skittish bun, is a lionhead, and she is always getting tangles and and things stuck in her mane or pantaloon fluff on top of needing grooming and it really does work for her. I also just let them stay on the ground and do small bits until they seem very annoyed and then just come back later. They have adjusted to it and Dorian is actually…[Read more]

their behavior became better the longer they were together, so we ended up doing a marathon session and they spent the night together in semi neutral territory… technically it’s more like both of their territory, but neither of them seem to care much about territory. Lots of reciprocal grooming, few snuggle sessions. Miu in particular was super…[Read more]
