Sorry, I didn’t see your question until now. Her ear drops are Baytril Otic.

In a webbinar in Feb, the rabbit vet that scientific support for probiotics for GI problems isn’t great. The studies I’ve read have been designed to help figure out ways to improve survival and weight gain in baby buns that are not pets. Saccharomyces cerevisiae has shown promise in that respect. It is a component in two supplements that I’ve used…[Read more]

Oh that’s helpful to know.  I might make an appointment with an ophthalmologist and see what they say.  It’s been a very expensive couple of vet months so probably not this year unless she somehow seems worse (vision or pain) . Right now she’s been a very happy little bun and she gets very stressed about cars and vet visits,  so also don’t want to…[Read more]

Maybe I will look at the digestive support as well! I have a feeling that may be easier to pick up.

And Bam thanks for all the info! Dorian tends to snack on cecotropes in the evening, mostly they both nap from noon to 3pm. I will look where I can find benebac.

Hmm… yeah, there would definitely be a cost-benefit analysis involved. As long as the cataracts doesn’t progress too far, bunnies can live a decent life without being able to see very well. Hypermature cataracts, however, can be very painful. The problem is cataracts surgery doesn’t do anything to restore vision if the retina is also…[Read more]

Bam has some good tips. I also wanted to mention that there are digestive support supplements available for rabbits. Not probiotics, but they contain ingredients that support healthy gut bacteria and motility. Oxbow makes one and Sherwood makes one.

Agree with Wick & Fable! Having a bonded companion would be great for your bun, it just takes some time and patience (sometimes a lot of time and patience lol). If your bun isn’t neutered that should be your first step. If there is a rescue in your area they may be able to help you find a good match for him. Many rescues will let you take your bun…[Read more]

Brewers yeast, saccharomyces cerevisiae, has been shown to have some beneficial effects on the bunny gut microbiota, so that’s often included in supplements for rabbits. Enterococcus faecium is a bacterium that’s highly prevalent in the healthy rabbit gut, Benebac contains this.

Lactobacilli are not present in the rabbit gut, except in very young…[Read more]

It’s been a rough couple of months with bunny issues,  mostly Dorian being really gassy. He is having a bad long molt that I blame on our yo-yo weather temperature. I try to stay on top of it, but his fur is so fine & lately the molting is never-ending so it’s a challenge.

I have been lucky as to being able to resolve things at home the last…[Read more]

She has decent side (peripheral) vision. She does better than Dorian running full speed into their tunnels and through gaps,  so she’s able to see well enough to be a active h…[Read more]

Typically healthy buns just go in for yearly wellness exams. Here, the vaccine is yearly too so I just schedule both at same time. If a heath issue comes up beforehand, obviously take them in before their yearly. They usually get an smaller overall check during issue exam versus a more comprehensive exam during wellness exams.

Hi! thank you both so so much this has helped a lot!

I will take him to the vet and get him vaccinated ASAP. I’m also going to monitor how he is with the alfalfa hay and if it seems like too much calcium, I can start mixing in some orchard grass, but I’ll check with my vet!

    Thanks so much for everything!

How often should I take my bun for…[Read more]

Vaccinating for RHDV2, in my opinion, is a must. Regardless of how unlikely it is for a rabbit to get it wherever they are located, the reality is once the rabbit gets it, the rabbit will pass and there is no action to prevent. Additionally, that rabbit, for a brief time, is also then a hazard for other rabbits it may come in contact with, making…[Read more]

It is generally always recommended for rabbits to have a bonded partner so they have companionship, so yes, that’d be a great idea– however, it is not as simple as getting a second rabbit and putting them together. As long as both you and your husband are on board, you would need to review what is needed to properly bond two rabbits, while also…[Read more]

Hi 🙂 I’ve never heard of problems from under the skin like build up– scar tissue seems more likely, though when I think of not being able to actually push down, I lean more towards mechanical equipment problems. Perhaps there are different gauge needles this time around? How do you typically get the supply?

For something under her skin to cause…[Read more]

FYI, I still have both these issues.

Login is not seamless normal behavior. I need to log in multiple times and refresh multiple times to be able to login and post.

I still get awaiting moderation for every single post.
