My rule of thumb is to give a certain set-up 2 or three dates to see how it goes. If it’s not working out (like you see zero signs of improvement), then it won’t hurt to move locations, as long as the new location is as neutral (or more neutral) than the original location. I actually think that working in different locations can help the bond be…[Read more]

That sounds like a really difficult problem Hazel. I hope you can get it sorted somehow. Maybe the rabbits temporarily need a secure run for the yard so they can at least get some time out?
Boy do I have a story for you guys! I had an interesting day yesterday. We have a nice big park super close by so I’ve been walking there a lot with either my…[Read more]

Maybe but I don’t know about the third date. I felt like it went roughly as the first. There was mostly ignoring as I first tried to keep the rug removed from the bathroom but this really prompted Zelda to find a place to hide rather than interact. Lots of nipping and both getting annoyed each other / some boxing I think, along with some more fur…[Read more]

Abscesses do typically show up on x-rays, but they don’t always show up very well. Vets will often try to get x-rays from different views to help identify abscesses and whether or not infection is spreading (i.e. to the bone).
If a healthy tooth is simply broken off at the gum line, it will typically grow back because the root is still there.…[Read more]

Thank you so much, I’m sure you guys hear it all the time, but you truly are life-savers <3.
I’d like to ask you a couple of things :):
– The vet did a x-ray on Tambor, if there were abscesses, the x-ray would have shown them, right?
– The x-ray showed 4 missing molars. There was no sign of new ones growing and the vet didn’t mention anything…[Read more] -

I’m sorry to hear about Monty. I think you made the right decision in not taking Sylvester to see his body.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Sore Hocks! in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 10 months ago
It does look a bit angry. Sudocreme isn’t going to hurt anything if he licks it off… but yes, that does essentially defeat the purpose. You could try making him some socks to cover his hocks. Then you could apply ointment. Even if it just stays on for a little while, it will be beneficial.

With EC, they sometimes get worse before they get better. So the symptoms associated with EC may take some time to show improvement. As for the infection, it does sound like that part has been improving. You said you don’t hear the rattling in his chest or see as much nasal discharge. Antibiotics, if effective against the bacteria in question,…[Read more]

I will echo Dana. It’s very possible that this is a genetic condition. Teeth are normally not that brittle, so something else has to be going on. It could be a problem with how his body processes calcium. And yes, sometimes the remaining teeth do stabilize. They can move within the jaw to “fill” the gap and become more aligned with each other.

50 sq ft is totally fine (esp as a temporary set up!), so don’t feel bad at all. It’s only temporary! He may actually feel less territorial knowing he has less space to “defend”.
The stinky-ness is crazy. I think they can control it by exposing their scent glands? Recently I revamped Cooper and Bonnie’s pen, and Cooper smelled super oniony again…[Read more]

I think that sounds like it went pretty well all things considered!
When i used to bond in my bathroom I had to block the toilet too! Honestly I think the most important thing now is patience, and just keep going as you have been. If they are comforted by pets, then pet lots.
If you want to keep posting about the sessions, feel free to do so…[Read more]

Cinnimon&Ollie replied to the topic Unspayed female suddenly pooping and peeing everywhere? in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 10 months ago
Most go back after being spayed but some need to be retrained again. Fox Valley Animal Welfare League is a very good place to get your rabbit spayed if you live around and haven’t already figured it out. They are great at it and very affordable I Think it is 90 or 100 for a spay which is a very good price.

I am pretty sure that overfeeding pellets can’t kill them only make them overweight, and not eat hay as DanaNM said. I think that measured feeding is the way to go because they won’t become overweight, and there is a much better chance that they will eat their hay more. I had one of my bunnies since she was 2 months old and never free fed here,…[Read more]

Hi… I also have anxiety and it is hard to take care of them sometimes. When it is hard I sometimes skip brushing them for that day or if their cage isn’t super messy I leave it be. When I can though this is what I do.
- 8 AM let them out for 15 minutes.
- 9/10 AM I let them out when I do school ( I homeschool ) normally they are out for about 1…

First date didn’t go well.
– some nipping and lunging – okay, but Shadow was being aggressive with it and he “dug” at Zelda’s head twice. I’m not sure what he’s trying to tell her. The second time was because she tried to hump him.
– humping, not much.
– thumping, none.
– chasing, none.
– there was a brief groom standoff.Second date might’ve…[Read more]

I think it may be better not to swap for now, my only issue is space. In hindsight it’s not the best set – up but I can’t change it now. With one of them able to leave the room anytime, they aren’t getting as much exposure to each other as I wanted.
Right now Max has about 50 sq ft, which isn’t horrible but seeing him run up and down the hall…[Read more]

The smelly-ness can come from just being territorial! Cooper was SO stinky when i brought him home, even though he was neutered! I def had some “oh no” thoughts with him at first, but it did calm down once they were bonded!
I agree more pre-bonding will help a lot in this case (or even just no swaps, let them live side by side for a few weeks,…[Read more]
