We are not vets, so we can’t really give medical advice. But yes, it does sound like you may have been giving her the wrong dosage. If we are correct in our calculations (based on what you told us), then she has been getting a little over half the recommended dosage. This may explain why you haven’t seen improvement. At this point, I don’t know…[Read more]

What are some of your bunnies favorite treats? Please no hay based DIY treats, last time I tried it made the house smell terrible. If you use a dehydrator then can there be an alternative? Bonus points if you have one with oat flour (I can’t find anything with oat flour). Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the late reply, I forgot that I posted this. What part of the pumpkin is the flesh? Thanks for your reply!

That’s a horrible thing to say to someone who has just lost their beloved rabbit, Ellie. (It’s not a very nice thing to say to any bun owner at any time, tbh).
Breintje was bonded to you and obviously a very happy bun. Shelter people dont know you. I think they assume the worst about practically all people tbh. I know of a few longtime…[Read more]

I don’t think there is any shame in rehoming if you realize you aren’t able to provide good care anymore, so long as you make sure they go to a good home. Are there any rescue organizations in your area that might be able to assist you?
There are some resources and tips for safe rehoming here: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Rehoming_your_rabbit

Yes that sounds about right for giant breeds! And yes separate them until after spaying and her hormones have settled (usually this takes between 3-6 weeks). It’s also recommended to do “prebonding”, where you have them live side by side and swap who’s in which cage every day or two for a few weeks. This helps them get used to each other’s scents…[Read more]

Taking it slow is usually a good strategy! Take some deep breaths and maybe have a cup of calming tea before hand. 🙂
It’s normal to be nervous about scuffling, but just remember that if you are right there to break it up it’s unlikely they will get hurt (even if some fur flies). In most of the bunnies I’ve bonded there has been some scuffling at…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Rabbit gaining weight in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 10 months ago
As far as how to touch the spine, I just feel for it when I pet them, maybe a small amount of pressure but not much. If you have to push to feel it, then they are over weight, but if you feel it really really easily (and it feels more sharp), they are underweight. I have to balance this all the time because I have a younger bun that is a meat…[Read more]

Well shoot… so I have been giving her the wrong dose this whole time?
Now that she is on day 26 of the 28 days, how should I proceed? Should I start back at day 1 giving her .27 mL?
This is so confusing… I feel so much resentment towards the vet for not knowing, not giving me the right dosage, not giving her anti inflammatory medicine… it’s…[Read more] -

Yeah I have… thank you all!
Its frustrating when you get more accurate information and better advice from an online forum than you do from a system of ‘skilled veterinarians’…

Given that she has recently turned 1, weight gain is not entitling surprising if you’re feeding the same amount as you were a few months ago. At a year old most rabbits have stopped growing so they don’t need quite as much food as before. The easiest thing to do is to reduce the amount of pellets you give, it doesn’t sound like you’re giving much…[Read more]

You have received some wonderful advice here. I just wanted to add in regards to the eyes if they look like they are bulging out, you may need to get them pressure tested (not every vet has the tool for this). If the pressure in the eye is too high they can rupture, the eye may need to be removed if the pressure is too high to prevent rupture. I…[Read more]

Maybe you could foster a bun thats too young to be spayed/neutered? Then you could get to know that bun properly before you tried bonding him/her? My bun was 3.5 months when I got her. She turns 6 months next week, which is the earliest my vet wants to spay her. (I’m quite nervous about this, of course).

I tried calculating the dosage. I have dog fenbendazole of the same strength, 10%. According to the label, 1 ml contains 100 mg fenbendazole.
If you give 0.15 ml, it contains 15 mg fenbendazole. (100 ×0.15= 15).
This is a bit low for a bun that weighs 1.35 kilos. Standard dosage of fenbendazole for e cuniculi is 20 mg per kilo body weight. A…[Read more]

Thank you so much everyone! I feel so much better after hearing your stories and advice. I would definitely find an airline service that would allow him to be with me! I wouldn’t let him go in cargo, I read that’s even harder and no matter how kind people may be, I wouldn’t trust my bun with strangers not qualified to handle him. I am relieved and…[Read more]

Hello!
I am currently struggling with the decision whether to keep my bunnies or not. I have had them for about 2 years, and it’s so sad to think of giving them away, although at the same time, i have been falling behind in their care. Sometimes life gets ahead of me, and I leave their litter box dirty for multiple days or I let their nails g…[Read more]

I know.. thats the most frustrating part… essentially having to be her vet. Its scary when you’re self diagnosing as well as getting the correct medications and calculating the doses.
I tried to attach a photo here but it wouldn’t let me so Ill see if I can figure out how to add photos.
