Rabbits with headtilt stop feeling off balance after a while. It looks worse than it is once the balance organs stop signalling wildly and the vertigo goes away. A bun that has vertigo tends to spin and fall over. The website Disabled Rabbits has some tips on how to make a head tilt bun more comfortable:

I make this one that my bunnies LOVE, 1/2 banana, 1/4 cups oatmeal oats, 1/4 cup of rabbits pellets, and 1/2 cup carrots (optional).
- Preheat the oven to 325ºF
- Blend the pellets and oatmeal together. Mash the banana and puree the carrot
- Combine all ingredients and knead until it is dough
- Bake for 20 minutes, then turn off the oven,…

Well I did another 30 min session today. After a hike when I felt calm, ha. They did about the same, if not a little more tense for most the time. Maxwell doesn’t do much. He lays flat and closes his eyes when he’s close to her. I think it might frustrate Ruby but to me it’s better than a fight.
They did some head butts where I petted and they…[Read more]

Thank you. And how often do you give treats to the bunny? Is it a everyday thing? I have seen many owners do that

Oh yes i always try to feel the spine she is just a ball of fluff so she has quite a thick fur so I have to push more.
Yes she acts like she is STARVING and stands on her back feet to beg for the pellets even start to chew her like iron fence so it makes noise, so I would give her 🙄

The fruit(?) part of the pumpkin. Not the seeds.

Here are some homemade recipes: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Treats#Homemade_recipes
I haven’t tried any myself, as my rabbits are quite satisfied with Selective Science’s treats, haha. Also, remember that “treats” is our subjective categorization– sometimes pellets or even a leaf of romaine is enough of a treat for some rabbits, hehe.

Re: veggie amount, I would not be too concerned about weighing/measuring that– it is very hard for a rabbit to gain weight through veggie eating. I would put your focus on the pellets as discussed, as veggies shouldn’t make a significant different in weight gain/loss.

Yes, the eyes do look bad. It may be too late to do much for them, except trying to stop the inflammation. Azerane is correct that severe uveitis caused by EC can lead to secondary glaucoma.
I have read some articles talking about steroid eye drops to help with inflammation. Steroids should be used with caution in rabbits. But the topical kind…[Read more]

We are not vets, so we can’t really give medical advice. But yes, it does sound like you may have been giving her the wrong dosage. If we are correct in our calculations (based on what you told us), then she has been getting a little over half the recommended dosage. This may explain why you haven’t seen improvement. At this point, I don’t know…[Read more]

What are some of your bunnies favorite treats? Please no hay based DIY treats, last time I tried it made the house smell terrible. If you use a dehydrator then can there be an alternative? Bonus points if you have one with oat flour (I can’t find anything with oat flour). Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the late reply, I forgot that I posted this. What part of the pumpkin is the flesh? Thanks for your reply!

That’s a horrible thing to say to someone who has just lost their beloved rabbit, Ellie. (It’s not a very nice thing to say to any bun owner at any time, tbh).
Breintje was bonded to you and obviously a very happy bun. Shelter people dont know you. I think they assume the worst about practically all people tbh. I know of a few longtime…[Read more]

I don’t think there is any shame in rehoming if you realize you aren’t able to provide good care anymore, so long as you make sure they go to a good home. Are there any rescue organizations in your area that might be able to assist you?

Yes that sounds about right for giant breeds! And yes separate them until after spaying and her hormones have settled (usually this takes between 3-6 weeks). It’s also recommended to do “prebonding”, where you have them live side by side and swap who’s in which cage every day or two for a few weeks. This helps them get used to each other’s scents…[Read more]

Taking it slow is usually a good strategy! Take some deep breaths and maybe have a cup of calming tea before hand. 🙂
It’s normal to be nervous about scuffling, but just remember that if you are right there to break it up it’s unlikely they will get hurt (even if some fur flies). In most of the bunnies I’ve bonded there has been some scuffling at…[Read more]

As far as how to touch the spine, I just feel for it when I pet them, maybe a small amount of pressure but not much. If you have to push to feel it, then they are over weight, but if you feel it really really easily (and it feels more sharp), they are underweight. I have to balance this all the time because I have a younger bun that is a meat…[Read more]

Well shoot… so I have been giving her the wrong dose this whole time?
Now that she is on day 26 of the 28 days, how should I proceed? Should I start back at day 1 giving her .27 mL?
This is so confusing… I feel so much resentment towards the vet for not knowing, not giving me the right dosage, not giving her anti inflammatory medicine… it’s…[Read more] - Load More
