I bawled like a baby reading your tribue to Olive Blu.  So beautiful!  You and Olive Blu had a blessed life together for almost 12 years — making it even that much harder to part.  Congratulations on the super job of care you provided to him over a year ago, sustaining his life and love for more than a year.   What a success story!  You did every…[Read more]

I think it’s soooo funny when my bunnies groom themselves FURIOUSLY after I give them a deep grooming and nail trim. You can just tell they are like “UGH you messed up all my fur!!”

I suspect the molt plus maybe a slightly weakened system after recovering from her respiratory infection could have triggered it. Molting can be hard on bunnies, even when it doesn’t seem like they are ingesting a lot of fur. It’s really common for buns to have GI trouble around molting time.

I agree that fiber is the name of the game, and making…[Read more]

Since I’m going through a tough bond too I know how good it must feel to get past a hurdle! My girl is also really nippy with the male. Same kind of things, when he digs a blanket, runs too fast past her, etc. With her though, I bonded her to my bridge bun last year and she didn’t nip AT ALL! She was totally different with him and they bonded in a…[Read more]

    I’m sure they have good bun-reasons =D

I had a bun that I caught in a community garden, because he was clearly a stray domestic bun and not a wildling. The first few weeks he felt the urge to clean himself for like 20 minutes every time I’d touched him. Horrible hooman-scent on his precious fur!

It did subside though and he eventually became…[Read more]

First of all, congrats on having taken so great care of Lola that she has reached this awesome age!

Regarding the pee, you need to check so she doesn’t have a urinary tract infection. (You might have done that already). Older animals incl humans are prone to UTIs in old age.

Regardless of whether this is about a UTI or just “normal” old…[Read more]

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

It sounds like Ollie had a really wonderful and full life with you. I bet he was one happy bun!

It is a normal part of grieving to second guess yourself but often the decision made at the time is the right one made with logic and reasoning.

Sorry to hear your bunny is going through this. Wishing her a speedy and easy recovery!

It is always hard to say the cause but I noticed you mentioned she had a hard molt. You could try fortifying fiber in the buns diets, I see that she already has a good diet but even just fortifying with daily dried forage e.g a small handful from a bag of…[Read more]

    It FINALLY HAPPENED.

Bella groomed Glenn and I mean she GROOOOMED him. A full couple minutes long groom. This is the breakthrough I’ve been waiting for, for 4 weeks mainly just because I was never 100% sure before that she actually ever liked him or not. Glenn groomed her back immediately after and then started showing some dominant behaviours…[Read more]

I’m not sure I understand exactly what you mean, but a rabbit’s fur is very indicative of how a rabbit feels. Some buns get pretty excited over food they really like. Excitement can make the hair stand up on many species, and not just negative excitement. We often think that it means aggression or defensiveness, but it can be about any…[Read more]

My holland lop Lola is 10.5 I know she’s getting there in age. She’s developed cataracts and likely almost blind, and we lost her bonded bun a few weeks ago 🙁

Shes stopped using her litter box for about a year now. I think she’s old and DGAF anymore, I’ve seen her jump on it before so I know she can (pre cataracts) but that’s fine we’ve mad…[Read more]

when my bunny eats vegetables, his fur becomes really floofy and when hes done eating, it becomes normal again. it doesn’t happen when hes eating pellets or hay. its really cute and i wonder why it happens?

I’m so sorry for the loss of your Elmer, I can definitely relate as I lost my bun (Milo) towards the end of October after almost 7 years. Your guy reminds me of him a little. What wonderful memories and a special connection you two had made though, and those memories will be something to cherish forever. I’m not sure when it gets easier, there are…[Read more]

She was molting hard but got through the worst of it. She does eat lots of hay. I took her to the vet for an upper respiratory infection earlier last month they said her teeth looked good. As far as stress I can’t sense she’s stressed she always seems pretty content.

I’m sorry she isn’t doing well. 🙁  I don’t think you did anything wrong, you took her to the vet really quickly after you first saw symptoms that weren’t improving. It sounds like she just needs supportive care and meds for longer, so it’s good she’s at the vet now. The fluids and pain meds should help her feel better. Sometimes recovery from…[Read more]
