Hi all.
I am in South Carolina, USA and I have 2 male Lionhead rabbits (they are housed indoors but play outside in the backyard sometimes). My veterinarian recently ordered the Medgene RHDV vaccine and I have an appointment scheduled for both of my bunnies to receive their first dose of the vaccine in 2 days, but I am SO incredibly nervous about…[Read more]

I just did 3 hours in the downstairs room, and it went really well! There was a middle part where I was worried, and did do a soft intervention once, but overall one of the best. This was the first time there was mutual grooming! granted it took Max 3 hours, but that is OK! I don’t think they are acting bonded, and I still feel like I’m still…[Read more]

I was just with them in the basement without a signal.. went ahead and did a bonding and that actually perked him up! Maybe he wore himself out last night or really early this morning, or maybe he was just starting to feel bad but didn’t last. I do think there was something going on but maybe not. This did make me realize with spending more time…[Read more]

I’m so incredibly thankful for the House Rabbit Network here, they really saved us and our bunnies!

Oh Maxwell!
Have you tried a tummy rub and a big pile of wet salad?
He could be a bit gassy or dehydrated. I think if he eats the salad on his own you could observe him for a bit more. But not sure what time zone you are in, if it’s a question of getting him in with his normal vet vs. having to go to the ER later, getting him into the normal vet…[Read more]

Hello, before calling the vet, once again there may be some bunny drama with Max. I’m super paranoid after what happened to Elmer. Today I just started getting a bad feeling with him. He was chewing a lot of wood, but also ate some pellets and a little hay this morning. He pooped just a little, not as much as normal. As the day has gone on he’s…[Read more]

Whoa, rabbittude… Yes, they can get really angry, and they have pretty clear ways of telling us. I’m happy that she’s not constantly giving you the butt, they can keep it up for days.

Holy Moly, what a horrible situation! I’m so happy to hear that you were able to buy a house and get out of that hellhole. It’s beyond cruel to tell people to get rid of their pets. I guess that it’s counting down the weeks now, but it sounds so stressful. I’m hoping that 2022 will be a much better year for you and yours!

This is really reassuring too- thank you!! I also appreciate the tip about feeding him pellets in the carrier! Great idea. I’m going to do this!

Agree with Susanne. Most rabbits do not like being picked up as they are “prey animals”. So their instincts tell them they are about to get eaten when they are picked up. Most rabbits also don’t like to sit on laps, but many will love to lay near you and get pets. He sounds like he trusts you a lot, he just doesn’t like to sit on laps or be picked…[Read more]

None of my 3 rabbits liked being picked up at all, and that is pretty normal for them. It sounds like you’re doing the right things! Mine haven’t even sat in my lap long enough to eat a treat, so really that is impressive 🙂 I think most rabbits wouldn’t like to sit on a lap, but feeding treats and maybe sitting on a couch with them could…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Fred & George – Back to Bonding in the forum BONDING 4 years, 8 months ago
I really hope you’ll be able to bond them! If not, and you are able to keep them separately, lots of bunnies will live happily as neighbors, and still get the social benefits of having another rabbit nearby. If you end up deciding they aren’t bondable, you don’t need to keep them out of sight of each other and can just keep them side by side.

Haha okay. That makes sense about binkies. They really do seem to taunt one another at times, and I know Fred loved to flop near and against George (which was cute, but I knew from research could be an insult).
This is a frustrating situation but it is possible to have them live apart as they are now, with each getting exercise and not seeing one…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Help! bonding bucks! in the forum BONDING 4 years, 8 months ago
Yep, it’s definitely fine to take breaks as needed, and it’s encouraged to keep going as they have these tiffs. Sometimes it can help to give them some extra toys or a bit more space as the sessions get longer.
Taking turns grooming each other is great. 🙂
One other thing, sometimes adding a litter box too soon can trigger some territorial…[Read more]
