If they start fighting seriously, I may consider separating them. On the other hand, I don’t anyone to get hurt…
If I see any small signs off aggression besides nipping and chasing, I will separate them immediately.

Male-female pairs are the most common and do seem to be slightly easier bonds. But F-F pairs are possible too. Size and age don’t matter at all, it’s more about personalities. Breed also doesn’t really matter… but all of that said…. anecdotally lionheads seem to prefer other lionheads. I don’t have any real evidence for this, but at the…[Read more]

Wick – what a fantastic idea about the puzzles, perhaps she’s more of an enrichment bun than an energetic bun. My other is crazy and will entertain himself more by running all over the furniture lol but perhaps she more chill and would prefer engagement type exercise.
Dana – that’s a good shout! Maybe she’s a night owl, come to think of it I do…[Read more]

Ok gotcha! I wasn’t sure if you had bonding experience before. I think that would also increase the chances of success, because you have some experience. 🙂

Since Patches is still very young, and both are unspayed, whatever bond they have is known as a “baby bond”, rather than a true bond, and can be very unstable. Adult rabbits tend to get a long with babies (pre-puberty), as they don’t see them as a threat. The chasing and nipping you are seeing is a sign that it is becoming even less stable.
Again…[Read more]

Hi everyone!
my boyfriend and I are lucky owners of a beautiful lop called Buddy who is approx 4 months old. We adopted him from a friend who couldn’t look after him long term as her landlord doesn’t allow pets. we’re going away next month and our only real option for him to be looked after is for him to stay for a week at his previous owner’s…[Read more]

They are bonded, sorry I didn’t mention that. This morning they were cuddling together.

They look adorable! They must be so well-cared for, those people really are amazing! It’s wonderful having such a group around ^_^
It’s logical to get such a feeling, our brains like to see the world in patterns. Our fears too, especially when something very bad happened, and you fear for someone that you hold dear.
Those are the primal…[Read more]

Again, I’m so sorry. It really hurts to lose a beloved rabbit. There’s something profoundly horrible about not being able to help an animal in need.
You did absolutely everything you could. If you had given him greens and he had passed after that, you’d very likely be wondering if maybe the greens were the cause of his demise. Good, concientious…[Read more]

I am so sorry you are going through this! I too have an insane landlord (not literally) but luckily she was terrible at writing a lease and court sided with me and now she is not allowed near my house for any reason without a 30 day notice or me personally asking her in writing to come here.
I can’t wait until you get your babies back!

Very interesting, thanks!
I too add a little more the second day. I think I’ll try starting with more than just the one layer and see if that works out better. I played around with different sized boxes. I found that with a larger box, he loved to move the hay around and it got soiled very easily which led to a lot more waste. I’m not sure I’ll…[Read more]

The amount of litter used a lot of time is contingent on how often the owner is willing to change the box, in addition to the size of the litterbox relative to the rabbit’s pee-volume-capacity. I also only use a single layer and change soiled litter out daily.
I know some people actually pre-wet their pine pellets to get it partially pelleted and…[Read more]

Hi there! I’ve been using a single layer of wood stove pellets in our lil guy’s litter box and I change it every other day or so. I notice that some people use a lot more wood pellets, an amount that compares to that of a cat’s litter box. Would love to know how much you use and why…?
My bun spends a good amount of time eating in his litter box…[Read more]

Aww look at those cuties! I think I’d like to have a Californian at some point.. Seems like all is going well with the temporary foster. I get being paranoid, and that was BJs partner? I think BJ will be OK while there though… Not much longer now!
Sorry that you had to go through a loss on a holiday. That would be especially hard.

Yes, both are fixed.
I am also well aware of the bonding process and steps. I have trouble in the beginning with my last pair, but they worked out great!

Hi!
I have a female lionhead who will be spayed very soon. I would like to get her a friend as I think it would make her happier. My understanding is that its best to find a male for her…is that correct? Also, should a friend be similar in size and age to her or does that matter, in your experience? She free roams so cage size isn’t an issue.…[Read more]

It sounds like they are doing great! Good job!
As long as the chasing is him trying to mount (his ears forwards, not pinned back)I would observe the mounting attempts and chasing, and see what happens if you don’t intervene (especially during your longer sessions). Of course intervene if it starts to turn to circling. Mounting is pretty normal in…[Read more]

What time of day is does she get her roaming time? I noticed Bonnie seems really inactive during the day, and at first I attributed it to her also being in the shelter for a long time and not being used to running around. Then I started letting her out overnight, and found her zooming around the room at 4 am!
All of that said, I can imagine…[Read more]
