martini replied to the topic Weight lost tips in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 7 months ago

Ok so updating this in case someone finds it interesting / useful. And can provide me with their opinion:

Martini managed to lose all his extra weight by doing all of the above (mainly cutting down veggies, alternating one day half of fibafirst stick, one day 4-5 pellets as you suggested here). Once he hit the magical 2kg I started giving him 1/2…[Read more]

Yes.  As is the case for my vet… But I will still bring her to my vet for advice and results.

I forgot to say this earlier, but thank you very much for your reply!  I looked at your links.  I found them very helpful and have taken note of its info in case she is pregnant.

    Hi!

I have a 5 almost 6 year old female Holland lop rabbit. In the last few months one of her ears has started to unlop. I have looked inside and it looks clean. Has anyone else had a rabbit whose ear unlopped? Should I take her to the vet?

    Thanks!

Pellet-free diets are very hard to pull off. However, I don’t think it is necessary to provide THAT many different veggies. It would potentially discourage hay eating… not to mention it’s extremely impractical. An easy way to give variety is to buy spring mix, just make sure it doesn’t have tons of spinach in it (sometimes it’s used as a…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Is Guar Gum safe? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 7 months ago

I agree with Dana. I don’t think guar gum is anything to worry about. Especially not in the quantities we are talking. It’s a binder/bulking agent that’s essentially just fiber. It may not sit well with a carnivore, but a herbivore wouldn’t have the same problem.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Rabbit has stuffy nose, should I try to find a quicker appointment? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 7 months ago

This kind of thing is usually a slower onset. But you definitely don’t want to wait for it to get REALLY bad. As Wick said, if you see signs of this progressing then it would be wise to seek vet care sooner. Luckily, Thursday isn’t terribly far away.

You can try steam therapy by taking your bunny into an enclosed bathroom and running the shower…[Read more]

You do wonder if there is some kind of chronic irritation of the sinuses. Yes, tooth roots is usually the prime suspect. But she was awfully young when this started.

I believe she is acting normal. She is laying a lot in the last spot Asuna was laying but I feel like I’m overthinking that. They have their own room and tend to pick certain spots to lay for awhile till they get bored so I feel like they were laying there prior to the whole thing  But she is eating her hay and kale and pellets like normal.

    I…[Read more]

Exactly, considering worst case we don’t progress and have to move back to the downstairs. I don’t see any harm to try!

We’ve been hanging out this evening and they are acting about the same as the neutral room. Mostly good, and some light nipping from Ruby.  Ruby started on his eyes again so I eventually pushed her away. They feel a little scabbed 🙁

Pellet free diets are incredibly difficult to maintain and potentially impossible for some people/contexts– my opinion is, with exception of a few rabbits who perhaps have GI sensitivities that seem only linked to pellets, a rabbit should not be pellet free. Very restricted, yes though.

The following link has good information on the debate:…[Read more]

Gotcha! Yes I think dad needs to be kept separate from mom and babies. He could hurt a baby very easily, and wouldn’t be able to properly bond with them yet anyway (since they aren’t mature). Since he and the mom weren’t castrated before, it’s also likely that they weren’t fully bonded (as they were just getting along for the purposes of…[Read more]

It’s ok, things happen. There is a good chance that Yuna knew she was sick and already said her goodbyes. How is she doing now?

I hope you and Yuna can be a comfort to each other as you both grieve. Again I’m so sorry for your loss. <3

Rabbits are primarily grass eaters. Vegetables incl leafy greens have the wrong nutritional profile for rabbits. Rabbits need to chew grass fibers (gay) to wear down their teeth properly. If the bun gets a lot of greens, it will fill up on greens and as a result eat less hay. If a bun is to get 14-17 different vegs per day, it would have to be…[Read more]

I agree, I think Ruby didn’t trust his intentions when he started running with her! A couple times he ran around/ past her while zooming and she didn’t do anything. Once I got on the floor with them I hope she realized it was all in fun since I pet them both and nothing bad happened to her..
