Oh good! I’m glad to hear he’s doing OK, considering the circumstances. Hopefully the break isn’t bad and will start healing on it’s own.

My rabbit also has a lot of those due to shedding right now. And so awesome you named your rabbit Elmer! That was the name of my first bun that passed away a few months ago.

I’m glad to hear that Bella is feeling better on the medication. If you’re going to daily pain medication, it’s probably worth doing 6 monthly blood checks on the kidneys just to track how they cope. There are other options for pain medication, but they tend to opioids and they can make buns a little zonked out, and I’m not sure how suitable they…[Read more]

Thank you for the reply! I am seeing more fur around and he’s grooming a lot so maybe that’s the beginning of a molt? I do need to get him a real brush, i’ll do that this evening and start brushing him out daily so he’s not eating all that hair.
Thank you again, that was very helpful and it kept me from freaking out lol

*Update*
So Bella has been on 0.32 of loxicom daily (she’s only about 1.7kg so I think it’s a fair dose). It is the 4th day today and WOW! What an improvement, she’s almost a different bun, she’s moving much more, engaging with toys and one big difference is she’s actually using all of her pen, before she would stay localised to a small area but…[Read more]

If the vet suspects a respiratory infection is best if they do a culture swab to be sure they’re giving the correct type of antibiotic.
Otherwise, I would switch out her hay. It’s an easy way to determine whether she sensitive to it. As mentioned if you’re feeding a pellet for young rabbits, you don’t also need to be feeding alfalfa hay.

This doesnt warrant an emergency vet visit. Oval poops like these means theres been a slight gut slowdown.
Is Elmer shedding? Many buns get a bit of tummy trouble when they’re molting or about to start a molt. The best thing to do is to brush him daily, so he cant ingest a lot of hair.

Hello!
I’m new to rabbits so this may be a dumb question. My little Elmer has been having these weird oblong shaped poops randomly over the last couple of days. Some of them have things sticking out of them like hair or possibly hay. He’s otherwise normal, eating, drinking, playing. It’s a 3 week wait to get him into his vet for a r…[Read more]

Maybe you could block his access to the top of the cage? Or even put an extra litterbox there? I can see how this situation must be very impractical for you!
(Since he was so recently neutered, I’d like to mention that you might see even more pee marking and other sexually driven behaviors for about 2 weeks post neuter, sometimes (although…[Read more]

Hi, I have a six month old holland lop Kalevi (finnish name). Hi was such an angel before, one of the loveliest bunnies I have met. But couple weeks ago he started to pee on sofa, bed and on top of his cage. He has a 3m cage, without a door, because we wanted to give him his ”own house” and a safe place for him to go.
We had him castrated 11.1…[Read more] -

We brought him home and on the drive back he kept flopping over in his carrier. When we arrived he “bunny slept” for about 15 minutes then spent his time re-chinning everything.
His first syringe feeding was successful, he didn’t really try to struggle at all. Then he went on to try to chew some cardboard and did eat a strand of hay with a Timot…[Read more]

You should always at least consult with a rabbit-savvy vet before making any modifications to the current treatment plan, so I’d recommend at least calling to leave a message/speak with the vet about your concerns and what to do.

Susanne replied to the topic advice? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 7 months ago
When I read your first post it sounded like the vet was worried maybe because of his experience, but after reading your responses it sounds like he just presented the situation in an odd way. He also made it sound more risky than it actually is, and didn’t seem to know that the cancer risk was higher.. so still a red flag but not as bad as him…[Read more]
