I agree, that’s just a blanket statement so people know the formula is not a “growth” formula. If you have a healthy adult rabbit, then you would want to give them an appropriate pellet. Otherwise, they could become overweight from eating something that is too calorie-dense.

Yes, the labels aren’t necessarily inaccurate… but they don’t really mean much when it comes to rabbit nutritional value. Your best bet is to look at the nutritional analysis and try to get as close to the recommendations as you can. Sherwood does a good job of this, so does Oxbow. If you’re wanting to avoid cheap fillers, then I do think…[Read more]

Suddenly, out of the blue, I got bitten by both Owen AND Molly today! My sweet little Mollymolly who is so timid that she tries to be friends with the furniture… 😥
They both bit me high on the upper leg, almost in the same spot. They gave me a hard shove with their nose, and bit immediately afterwards 😥
Looking back, this is…[Read more]

Don’t get me started on 13!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loveeeee the number 13! It’s the literal perfect number! I have this really weird theory that something really important will happen to you when you turn 13. Some people think it’s unlucky, but it’s not!!!!!!!
Just curious: What makes 13 special for you?

skin is a pinkish white so i think that seems normal ? I don’t see any obvious flaking or anything either. it’s a bit harder to check on his behind area because the fur is so thick so i cant see much skin but his ears are pinkish

I believe you are reading from this statement: “This product is not intended for growing, active, pregnant or nursing rabbits.”
I think it’s just a catch-all they are putting generally speaking where any rabbit that would be needing a higher density of nutrients for some sort of medical or life-span related reason. I would not be concerned about…[Read more]

Thanks! Funny enough, just a bit ago I attached a water bowl that is meant to go onto a dog crate. It fit on the grids of her cage so I am hoping that will work! As for the mats, she would chew on them some before getting spayed but stopped after her spay. I have coroplast under them just in case any pee or water goes through. They’re really easy…[Read more]

Does the skin under the fur look normal (no redness or flaking)?

Hmmm, not sure where you saw that they aren’t recommended for “active” buns, and I’m also confused by what they would mean by active?
I fed that food for many years, it’s a good all around food with a good nutrition profile. Unless your bun is losing or gaining weight, I don’t think you need to worry. And even then, usually it helps to just…[Read more]

Hi!
I have been feeding my bunny Oxbow’s adult essentials since I got her, basically. The shelter had been giving her alfalfa pellets and I slowly weened her off those, since she is for sure older than 8 months now (the vet thinks she is closer to 1.5 yrs).
I just saw that these pellets are not recommended for “active” bunnies..what exactly…[Read more]

The main things are pain meds, and be prepared to syringe feed if they don’t start eating on their own by the evening. Sometimes buns just need one or two syringe feedings to perk them up, and then they feel much better. 🙂
Having some favorite fragrant herbs on hand also can help entice them to eat on their own.

For buns that like tossing their water bowls around, I recommend using heavy ceramic bowls with a metal stand. I have it for my baby bun and he doesn’t toss his bowls around, anymore. Does she chew the puzzle mats, by the way? ♡
