sometimes he eats more hay sometimes a lot less. Generally he is not a big hay eater. When I got him at 4 months old he’d never had any grass hay before so it took me a long time to get him into eating hay.
he has just finished a big molt but I think he’s starting with a new round again?
I am definitely not going to give him more strawberry tre…[Read more]

A healthy adult rabbit that’s not a giant breed or an angora and who isn’t pregnant or lactating can live very well on a hay-only diet. You should start somewhat slow though, it takes time for the gut microbes to adapt so that all essential nutrients and energy can be extracted from the hay. Human guts rely on both microbes and enzymes to break…[Read more]

If the problem is recent, it could be due to the increase in daylight that occurs this time of year. I had a neutered male who started marking this time of year. It lasted a few weeks. It only happened one year. Most testosteron is produced by the testes, but when the testes are removed by neutering, there still remains some testosterone…[Read more]

Well the hay only diet would be a permanent thing not only a few days.
I didn’t ask specifically about liver torsion, but I’ve taken multiple X-rays with three different vets and nobody said anything. I would be surprised if nobody caught that.

I use vinyl! Def recommend it over a tarp.
If your bun already has rubber mats and blankets, you can just put down a sheet of vinyl to protect the floor, then put your rubber mats and blankets on top for traction.

Ive thought the same thing! I even have an entire floor I can pretty much dedicate to my other bunnies, but I think I’m going to keep them in about half of the level for most of the day and then let them out the other half because they get so excited to explore! I imagine its the same reason people rotate through toys- they get kind of bored of…[Read more]

Oh man, I bet! I’m so annoyed because my new state doesn’t have the vaccine yet, so I think we’re going to have to drive a couple hours to RI to get it. I’m sure the buns will NOT be pleased.

DanaNM replied to the topic Lettuce? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 6 months ago
Mine definitely do! They really go crazy when it’s fresh (either from the garden or the farmers market). If it’s bagged romaine they will eat it eventually, but are pretty meh about it. Oddly mine don’t love butter leaf?
Mine also seem to like bitter greens too!

@bastion It’s possible her ovaries were so small the first time that they couldn’t see them to remove them properly? I agree it’s odd but that’s my guess.
@Somi, I think she is probably OK now. For her breed, she is done growing and would mostly be “filling out”, as opposed to growing her skeleton and organs.
I do agree that it might be worth…[Read more]
