I like to keep them in neutral territory until they basically seem bonded, and can spend long periods of time together happily. A good rule of thumb is to have them spend at least 48 hours in neutral territory without any aggression (this is called “cementing”) and with lots of positive behaviors before moving them to semi-neutral. If you don’t…[Read more]

It’s thought that the vet visit thing has to do with the bunny coming back from the vet smelling different, so it’s kind of the same idea.
I think a lot of it has to do with either their scents getting confused (leading to the referred aggression), or the presence of another bunny around makes them decide they need to reestablish their…[Read more]

Thank you for responses.. He is neutered. He has a litter pan with a grate in it, so he doesn’t dig, doesn’t even touch the litter he just tries to dump over.. But, he’s never in there. Only to use the litter & he’s chewing all the sides up.. I have to order a new one.. Has lots of toys but doesn’t even both with them.. I’ll try a new pa…[Read more]

My female had this issue, but with urine. She never had poo clogged. The reasoning turned out to be that she has arthritis. The vet explained that she couldn’t hunch in the proper position to pee, so she would pee on herself and she struggled with grooming, so it built up into mats. She’s on daily metacam now and it’s completely solved it!

Okay, thank you so much. Unfortunately last time I cancelled my regular vet appointment because I ended up having to take him to the emergency vet for the antibiotics so my regular vet isn’t aware of what’s happening.
I did call and give them a run down on his symptoms and they said I should be okay to keep the current appointment I have but if…[Read more]

Hey all 👋
I’m after some advice on one of my bunnies. Every now and again he ends up with huge clumps of poo clogged at his backside. It takes so much delicate cleaning and it makes me so sad that my busy work life means I neglect to keep on top of it before it becomes an issue 🙁
When we initially had him from 12 weeks old, we were told by the…[Read more]

Chest x-rays would be the surest way to check his lungs. Its difficult to hear chest sounds on a rabbit even with a stethoscope.
An ear infection can be suspected if the external ear canal seems irritated plus if the bun f ex scrratches its ears a lot and shakes his head. Skull x rays as a rule tequires anesthesia/sedation and its not without…[Read more]

attemptedquad started the topic How much hay?!? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 6 months ago
I was looking up a rabbit boarding/bonding service and found a post that they made that said bunnies should eat 2-3x their weight in hay A DAY. To me, this is entirely baffling. I fill up my bunnies litter boxes multiple times a day, so they always have hay and I never go through nearly this much hay. 2 of my boys are 10 pounds, so for the 2 of…[Read more]

Yes I have an appointment on Tuesday to check on him again because I just felt like something still wasn’t right.
do you know what testing they’ll do for him in order to figure out what’s wrong? To be very honest I only have like $700 right now and I know x-rays alone are like $300 I just want to be somewhat prepared because need be I can borro…[Read more]

I think you should contact your vet. If he’s breathing faster the infection could have reached his lungs. A concurrent ear infection should also be ruled out. There are connections between the nose-mouth and middle ears where bacteria can travel. An ear infection is very painful and the bun should get a painkiller. If its the lungs, you can get a…[Read more]

Lol. I know right? I wonder if it has to do with having a good vantage point? I notice when I have my buns out, especially Toesie, they like seeking out a high point. And, what better high point than your shoulder?
Though, they have also enjoyed standing on my head, face, and neck… 😑

2/17/22 updates:
went in for a follow up. He’s been back to eating pooping normally last week. Todays follow up was for his lungs and blood panel. Kidney and calcium values are now within normal range but his lungs haven’t really improved much despite the antibiotics that he’s been on. His incisors also have pretty much grown back to their origi…[Read more]

Back to bonding! I’m just going to keep updating this thread to have a record of the steps we took and in case it can help anybody else.
I’m heartbroken about Freckles passing last week, but I’m not letting that stop me from moving forward in making all of the bunnies friends.
On Saturday we took the visual barrier down and put everybun in their…[Read more]

Been gone for a bit, so I’ll add a brief recap 🙂
I have been keeping an eye out for another bun for a companion for Dorian. My shelter has been pretty scarce in the single lady bun department, so I decided to see how a got along with a couple of the boys. He has a playdate tomorrow with a young boy named Theo. Theo is tiny, but has a lot of…[Read more]

This isn’t unusual. Sometimes bunnies just suddenly discover something is “fun”. Can you use a litter screen to deter digging? Then all you would need is a way to anchor to litter box down.
