Okay thank you! So if a rabbit owner has mononucleosis, it is probably okay for them to care for their rabbit normally as long as they wash their hands?

Wonderful! It’s really great to have some GI meds on hand for first aid when there are no available et appointments. A few weeks ago my rabbit came down with sth very similar, it took her about 2 days to get back to normal with the aid of simethicone, meloxicam and pepcid, CC and probiotic paste.. Because it cleared up like that, I think the root…[Read more]

Sometimes rabbits just decide that digging in their litter box is fun! Especially with puberty, female rabbits get the urge to dig.

I use a litter box screen to help with this, it goes in between the bedding layer and the hay layer. The ones BB sells work great, or you can use knitting mesh if your bun isn’t prone to chewing plastic.

Since he’s neutered, you are in good shape to get started with the process. Getting some good temporary housing in order is essential, as Wick&Fable mentioned. Extra x-pens and NIC-cubes are great for this, because you can build temporary cages or pens and then re-configure them once they are bonded.

Most cases, M-F pairs seem a bit easier, but…[Read more]

That sounds great! For now just keep petting them when they ask for grooms! Once this calmness is a bit more established, you can pause your petting for a few seconds here and there to see what happens, and then slowly ease off petting more and more. Sometimes this will actually trigger one bun to groom the other.

I could just take a bit more time. This is a case where I might make the area a bit smaller, to encourage them to spend some time together, as well as make sure they aren’t just at a “tolerance” phase. I generally like big spaces, but at this point it would be good to be extra sure that they won’t fight when they are confined for long periods of time.

Please see our bonding information page here: https://binkybunny.com/infocategory/bonding/

As noted, both rabbits must be spayed/neutered first, and you should be prepared to buckle-up for a long bonding process, including having separate enclosure spaces. If you’re unable to speed date rabbits to get an initial assessment on compatibility,…[Read more]

Just to add, there is debate around the utility of the pineapple and papaya enzymes and the mechanism behind its effectiveness (and whether it is actually effective). You can read some thoughts here: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Health_FAQ#Are_bromelain_from_pineapples_and_papain_from_papayas_effective_at_treating_hairballs_in_rabbits?

Thanks Dana, thats very sweet of you to say and comforting! Its so nice to have a community that understands the loss of a furry bunny friend, so many non bunny/animal people don’t understand and definitely underestimate how upsetting it is.

Wow that is eerily similar, even the amount of time you had together. I’m sorry you had to go through that…[Read more]

From my experience it takes Dorian a couple days to go completely back to normal eating habits.  He will however eat hay regularly. I wonder if the greens are just more than their stomach can deal with right after? I do find hand feeding them helps. So what you are describing lines up. I have when it was a bad bout had to give simethecone several…[Read more]

Just wanted post a bit of an update.

The next 3 days I’ve been putting them in the playpen and immediately petting them for about 30 to 50 seconds, and then take them away. They both kinda relax after being pet a little bit.

Tonight, I pet them for a bit until they relaxed then stopped. They both went up to each other with both of their heads…[Read more]

It’s not considered harmful to give simethicone as a preventative, so if you suspect there’s still gas, feel free. If she is eating some hay on her own, I would back down the critical care, but if it’s not a lot, then yes, continue to supplement her small independent eating with some forced critical feeding to ensure she has enough food in her to…[Read more]

I went to the Marth Wood website and I see that they have 3 varieties of animal bedding, but none of the bags look like yours. They have 2 varieties that are shavings and 1 that is pellets (pictured on site below)  They only list the ingredients of their Original Marth Wood Shavings, which is a blend of woods.  Their pellet bedding is probably s…[Read more]
