I to would not rule out RVHD, especially since your vet suspected sth wrong with the liver. In the early days, when little was known about the RVHD virus, the disease was called “rabbit hepatitis”, because on autopsies of dead wild rabbit, they found abnormal changes to the liver. In any case, it’d be wise to vaccinate any new rabbits.
I don’t…[Read more]

I agree with Dana. I would not rule out RHDV2. There may not have been any reported cases recently, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still spreading in wild rabbit populations. Often the rabbits die and are either inside a “burrow” (cottontails don’t actually burrow) or an scavenger finds them and eats them right away.
Blood coming from the mouth,…[Read more]

This isn’t unheard of in older neutered males. Potential causes could be bladder stones or an adrenal problem.

I have a pair of older house rabbits, both about 9 years old, a neutered male and an unspayed female. They have been harmoniously bonded since they were kits and have been the best behaved rabbits I’ve owned. They are healthy and active.
Several months ago, over the winter, their behavior changed drastically. The male now constantly chases the…[Read more]

Peeing on soft things is normal, so I wouldn’t be overly alarmed if she is peeing on a plush bed. However, I am concerned about the antibiotics. What were they for? A bacterial infection in her mouth? What was the dental surgery for? Was it an abscess?
As for the boy, a little dampness under the nose is normal. It’s condensation from their…[Read more]

Territorial poops are super normal in a newly bonded pair! It’s like they are staking their turf as a couple. Nothing to worry about 😉
With my pairs sometimes it only lasts a day, other times it gradually improves over a couple weeks.

Still not able to upload photos, though I can change my profile pic. Any update? Obviously not super critical, and probably sparing everyone a bunch of adorable Dorian and Miu spam 😀

Thanks!!!
& one last question (sorry @DanaNM )
there was a lot of poops scattered about their room this morning, I suspect Dorian as he’s more of a climber than Miu (she probably responsible for the ones near the litter though). It was pretty musky too. Is this territorial? Anything to be worried about? At least the peeing seems to have stopped,…[Read more]

Since you are in Texas (which has confirmed cases), I wouldn’t rule out RHDV. It tends to spread in the spring when insects start to become active.
If it’s not too late, your vet can have them tested for it…
There is a vaccine for the virus. The safest thing would be to have any new rabbit vaccinated before you bring them home. Annoyingly it…[Read more]
