Yep, he may have become desensitized to the stimulus since he wasn’t always getting a reward.

LBJ10 replied to the topic How do I get my bunny yo stop biting me so hard? in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 4 months ago
Yes, a lot of bunnies respond to squealing. The realize they are hurting you, so they learn to adjust their bite pressure.

Poor Apollo. That does seem to be the most logical explanation. I suppose the only way to know is to have his teeth checked. Hopefully he will be OK until next week.

I agree. Sometimes you just need to try a different antibiotic. I don’t know why the vet would say that, there are several antibiotics that are OK to use in rabbits. I have had a lot of luck with Azithromycin, but every infection is different.

I’m starting to have suspicions about Apollo, I think he might have dental problems.
Brief background, he’s 7 and 1/2, neutered. Had 2 seizures in early March (probably unrelated), had a roughly 12 hour stasis bout on March 15th and another on April 4th (which I put down to ingesting too much fur from moulting).
Now I’ve noticed on three…[Read more]

Thanks for the quick response!
The bathtub was a pretty rough experience.
We first put Pumba, (black male second rabbit), in the bathtub and he was freaking out and try to stand still and or run around but he just could not get any traction. It was literally like our bathtub was frictionless.
I put a small towel down onto the left and he stood…[Read more]

It sounds like she is still just settling in! Two weeks is really no time at all. I would keep playing “hard to get”, as you have been. If she nips you, make the “eeeek eeek” sound to let her know she hurt you. If she gets really nippy towards hands, it helps to wear gloves and then try not to react when she nips (aside from the “EEEK”…[Read more]

Yes, that’s common. You may even see poops like beads on a string when they’ve swallowed hair. The hair irritates the stomach, and you can expect all kinds of funny tummy symptoms.
Eating hay is very important during moult to help their system. Make hay extra attractive to them by hanging a hay rack over their box, or put a handful of hay in the…[Read more]

Hi everyone! I just recently rescued a 4 year old female Netherland dwarf. Honestly my boy Gatsby picked her out as I was trying to get him bonded. Their bonding went smoothly and I’ve had them both back with me for two weeks now after they spent a week bonding at the shelter. Gatsby is 5 now and I’ve had him since he was a baby. He’s my best…[Read more]

@Dana: I’m so happy that there’s a vaccine, finally! I’m rather worried about RHD2 because there was no vaccine available outside of Europe. It’s a dreadful disease 😥
So happy that your buns got it, even if it needed a long stressful car ride!
@Dorian: Thanks for the well-wishes, and the same to you! You’ve got a beautiful new bunny, and I…[Read more]
