Thank you for everyone’s reply. There’s so much about rabbit anatomy that I still need to learn. All responses were logical and informative and gave me peace of mind. The vet is allegedly rabbit-savvy but I may look for a different one.

He’s doing just fine so no damage done! 🙂

Hind leg weakness can also be a symptom of E. cuniculi. Worth considering as a possible cause.

When you just got out of the animal hospital and your human is already testing your patience by trying to get you over your fear of strawberries.

Pay no mind to the disaster box as I call it. They love that box and I don’t have the heart to throw it out yet. Lol.

Could she clear it just fine before? Since she is 5, she could have a little bit of arthritis developing.

I agree, I wouldn’t use pineapple juice. There are digestive supplements with papaya available that would be less sugary. Oxbow makes one. There is debate about whether or not it is actually effective. But a supplement formulated for small animals certainly isn’t going to hurt anything.

Not the best way to grab/restrain a rabbit, but I doubt any damage was done. Their skin is pretty loose and it doesn’t sound like his full weight was being held by his skin.

so it was going good all week, the two lay next to each other and relax all day long…no signs of any agression. I took this as a sign everything was all good and I started the bonding face to face. I started off in a small neutral box and boom fighting. I got bit pretty bad and ended up stopping the session because I was hurt. All the agression…[Read more]

I had a rat we raised from a pinky live to almost five.

I bond immediately, which is why I grabbed him away from the stupid kid that brought him to school to do God knows what.

We have a Senegal that is completely bald on her entire chest/belly.

Her previous home only fed her sunflower seeds, smoked and two of the people apparently didn’t like her (she’s a very nice little bird) and yelled at her a lot.

It’s hard to make any judgments based on a description, but objectively no, there shouldn’t be a need to grab “the skin” of a rabbit to restrain them — you do a proper hold. If the area appears to be swelling, flinches in pain, etc., those would be concerning signs I’d think of. Skin has a decent amount of give (e.g., you can probably grab some…[Read more]

It’s not very likely that your bun suffered any injury from being grabbed. A rabbit’s skin is loose over the muscles, which is why it’s so easy to give rabbits sub q fluids. He didn’t hang in the air. That the vet got her  hand full of fur could be due to stress shedding – animals often shed hair during vet visits, from the stress of being in a…[Read more]

I wish they made more rabbit toys 🙁 My rabbit loves toilet paper tubes stuffed in a tissue box with treats in it! You could also try baby stacking cups, key rings, and dog puzzle toys? Cat scratchers also work well! My rabbit also loves children’s ball pits, or you could make a dig box with paper (don’t use plastic) Easter grass!
