First time seeing these pictures on a larger screen, haven’t used my computer in a long while. They’re massive! I’ll try to resize them to keep things legible 😳

They had a 3,5 hour date today, at a different time. There was a loud party going on somewhere in the middle of the afternoon, so I moved them to the bathroom because it was too loud…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Re-bonding 2 girls after emergency vet visit fallout in the forum BONDING 4 years, 2 months ago

Hmm yeah it could have been they were in a large enough space with enough hiding spots that they did OK together even though they were unspayed.

Usually with injuries it’s recommended to wait several weeks for them to cool down and forget each other a bit, depending on how bad things were.

What you want to avoid is one bun is just always afraid…[Read more]

That’s a really tough situation. Whenever the buns fight badly enough to injure each other it’s important to assess the situation. How long did you let them cool off after that fight?

In really tough bonds I’ve had luck with both adding an element of stress (car rides), as well as using a very large very neutral space for bonding sessions. It can…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic peeing outside the litter box only at a certain timing in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 2 months ago

Hmm, that is curious! Where are the spots where he pees? Are they soft surfaces? Are they near the litter box or far from it?

And are they small spots of pee or large puddles? I’m wondering if it’s more like marking or just not recognizing the litterbox.

If you are seeing fur clumps around, it was likely pulled, especially if you are seeing mounting and chasing.

They may not need a full rebond, but could need some work to fully re-cement the bond. And if they spend a lot of time unsupervised I would be hesitant to leave them alone together.

Do you have a neutral area you can work with them in?…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic How to get bunny used to being picked up and held in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 2 months ago

I do think it’s important to be able to pick up your rabbit confidently because sometimes it’s necessary (nail trims, grooming, medication, etc), but if you are trying every day it could make your bun frustrated and fearful.

Is you bun afraid of hands in general, or just the picking up?

If he is fine with being petted and hands, that makes…[Read more]

Since you suspect he ate some foreign material I would take him to the vet right away if he doesn’t respond to the critical care and simethicone quickly.

DanaNM replied to the topic Gut sounds in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago

How loud are the sounds? Bunny guts aren’t supposed to be silent, but if you can hear loud gurgling from across the room that means he could have some gas pain. Giving a tummy massage and some simethicone are good first steps.

I think having some music on is a good idea, to give some background noise. I would also provide some extra hides if you can. If you try to stay calm that will also help. I would hang out with him but act as relaxed as possible with your body language, even if you are anxious too (even laying or sitting on the ground, watch a movie,…[Read more]

I would give both the simethicone and the Critical Care. They expired recently.

Fingers so crossed he’ll snap out of it with simethicone and CC. It’s great that he’s moving around, that’s really good for the proper function of the GI tract.

    Hello.

Last night my bunny was playing in his tunnel, but I noticed it was crinklier than normal. When I went to check out why, I discovered he’d gotten between the liner and the crinkly plastic inside and had been chewing on it. Some plastic pieces fell out when I picked up the tunnel. It all got thrown away immediately.

    Bunny was fine last…[Read more]

Let me know when you find out how, I’ve been trying to pick mine up calmly for 5 years LOL.

But jokes aside, rabbits generally don’t like to be picked up as they feel like they are being taken by a predator. They can however be very loving overwise, I have cuddles with my boy every day and he’ll snuggle up to my leg… So you can definitely still…[Read more]

Okay, thanks. There has been some loose fur, mounting and chasing going on, but not too “aggressive” just Lennon grunting. Do you think thats a sign to rebond them or is that just a little dust up between them as they settle down again. Lennon got spayed 3 or 4 months ago now.

For some reason I always forget about building up! I was lucky enough to have enough space here where that wasn’t necessary but that could definitely work maybe. These rooms are just so small I can’t see it being possible to both build big enough enclosures and still ensure they have enough space to run, which is what they love doing the most.
