Ughh so stressful! I wonder if a different motility medication might help? Sometimes a different med (like cisapride) or a combination of reglan and cisapride is needed in severe cases. Although it sounds like he is pooping a bit, he’s just not eating on his own?
Was the vet able to assess whether it could be liver torsion? The symptoms often…[Read more]

Hi everyone. I was hoping someone might be able to help with some advice as one of our bunnies is having a lot of trouble with stasis for the past 6 days. He’s always been very sensitive and would get stasis 1-2x a year since he was small (he’s 6 now), but we’ve always managed it.
Typically, he’d stop eating and pooping and have issues maintaining…[Read more] -

My bun Dorian is occasionally a digger, so I got the heavy plastic they use under office furniture and such an put it in the areas he likes to dig (big pieces of cardboard work too), it saves the rug. I then put a shallow box with some old towels in it and he will happily dig there instead. It saves him just moving to a different section of c…[Read more]

Thanks Bam! I can’t leave snacks about as Dorian will just eat them all before she even has a chance. His appetite recovered just fine! But she’s got some hay and is snuggled in a hidey box behind the couch. It’s pretty quiet right now, so they are both napping. I really wish vet visits weren’t so stressful for her. At least they’re all don…[Read more]

Oh, I’m glad she’s started to eat something! My only tip would be to offer peace and quiet (low lights, not too loud sound on the tv if you’re watching sth with a lot of gunfire etc), plus a selection of (small bits of) extra yummy treats strewn around the bunny area.
I havent noticed any problems after vaccinations of my buns, but I remember my…[Read more]

Does she get pellets or greens? Every other day doesn’t seem ideal, could your neighbor check in daily? Especially if there’s a heat wave, not sure which part of N.CA you’re at but it often gets up to the 90s this time of year. How long are you gone for?

In same boat, tried some oxbow pellets and they were pricey and I didn’t like them as much. Was going to try the small pet select next. If anyone has tried them as a substitute, what did you think?

Of course right after posting this she ate a little hay and took some pellets from me. She still seems stressed, but at least she’s eating and stopped trembling.

Dorian and Miu just had their 2nd vaccine shot today. It’s a bit traumatic for them, especially Miu as it involves a long car ride as well the vet part. Dorian is more chill than Miu and also pretty bonded with us, so even though he didn’t like it one bit and pouted a bit, he’s eating. Miu however is not, she’s mostly laying there slightly…[Read more]

She would probably still enjoy tossing toys, even if she can’t get around well. Does she have anything like that currently?
As for the litter habit issues… yes and no. It depends on whether or not the damage is permanent. It will likely get better with time and treatment, but she may never go back to 100%.

Hi all! First time bunny mom. I live in Northern CA & have a 4 month old female New Zealand breed who has decided she no longer wants to eat her Timothy hay. As a baby when we had her in a cage inside we fed her twice a day with a few pellets sprinkled in and she would gobble it up. Now that she is living in a secure outdoor coop with access t…[Read more]

I plan on going out of town for a week in August & I’m trying to make sure my bunny has everything it needs while I’m gone. She’s a 4 month old New Zealand breed who lives outside in Northern CA. I’ll have a neighbor come by every other day in the afternoon to check her hay & provide frozen jugs of water to help with the heat. She has access to…[Read more]

You cannot “stop” chewing behavior (only the rabbit can, and at their own volition), so the best an owner can do is provide effective and enticing redirection. Your rabbit sounds very active, so she will need appropriate engagement activities to match it.
I find rabbits who enjoy carpets/baseboards are attracted to “anchored” engagement– in…[Read more]
