Thanks Dana, your response was very reassuring!!
I tried again today, repeating everything exactly as I did yday however, before putting Freya in the same space I put her in the carrier and just walked around for a few mins to slightly stress her so she’s not as aggressive and I think it worked? I put her in and she took in her surroundings and t…[Read more]

Thanks for the tip!
Is dry poop as much of a problem or is it mainly the urine soaked poop and bedding? I have used cat scoopers previously and they are great for the soiled bits but i find the dry poops get everywhere and the only way to rid them completely is emptying the whole box.

We have resumed bonding now I’m back from my travels! We have some interesting behaviours.. Opinions?
Digging at and biting holes in the ‘bonding blankets i.e flooring’ – maybe just a kind if anxiety behaviour from the bonding stress.
We’ve had LOTS of grooming from Nellie x2 seperate 10 min head grooms she gave Glenn in todays session (still…[Read more]

Glad things look ok!
FYI I use a cat litter scoop to just scoop out the soiled litter, I don’t dump it all every 2 days. Using a litter box screen also makes cleaning easier because it separates the poop from the litter.

Thanks both for your help! She continues to act normal and look clean… Phew, I will be keeping a close eye and be chucking the litter away daily at least until I can get more wood pellets.
I think I will look into more economicly friendly litters options so I can keep them as clean as possible but without wasting lots of unspoiled wood pellets.

Azerane replied to the topic Should I take him to the vet? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years ago
Keep a very close eye on him until then and I’d also recommend weighing him, he does look a little gaunt in the latter photo and if you weigh him now you’ll be able to get a comparison weight on the day of your vet visit.
Obviously if there are other symptoms such as stopping eati g or pooping before your appointment date he’ll need to be seen…[Read more]

Maybe you can get a hepa filter for the bunny room to help take dust, allergens, and stuff out of the air if his sneezing persists.

We vacuumed everywhere and gave their room a deep clean and got rid of all the hay dust (I was sneezing by the end). I am hoping that is all it is as he does sneeze occasionally from dust or such, he is a delicate little prince bun. I will call vet if he still is sneezing tomorrow. He’s not sneezing right now, so fingers crossed.

If it’s irritation, then the sneezing will subside once the irritant is no longer there. If the sneezing persists, then it’s probably an infection. Discharge may be noticeable, but not always.

Getting rid of the fly eggs/larva (i.e. the dirty litter) should be all that is needed. I wouldn’t worry too terribly. Her bottom is very clean, so the risk of flystrike is less. Just be sure to keep her litter box clean moving forward and check her rear to make sure nothing looks off.

Dorian occasionally has little short sneeze attacks, but they usual don’t last all day. Today he’s been sneezing since morning on and off. They are really sad squeaky little sneezes. He seems fine otherwise, playing and eating. He may have had a little clear mucus near his nose (it’s not enough for me to be certain). There has a lot of hay dust…[Read more]

Yes! So easy to clean! The trays in the hutch can be pulled out to clean and the roof of the hutch can also open up! I got it on amazon – https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LDJJJZR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Really recommend! Great place for a hidey home too.

I just got the carefresh in the mail and set up their litter. Thumper is loving it! I haven’t had any accidents so far, but we will see!

I have given her a comb all over carefully inspecting fur for eggs and inspected hee hind very closely and everything looks clean and I cant find anything that looks like an egg… I may even get up in the night to do another bum check as I know how fast acting this can be! Her behaviour and appitite is normal.
This experience definitely has me shook

Thanks for your reply!
I think I will change it every day while we are experiencing this hot weather and increase in flies around then maybe reduce it to every 2 days when the weather gets colder again… I guess I may have just been getting complacent with every 4 days as I didn’t experience anything bad but this has definitely been a reminder…[Read more]

Not all vets believe probiotics do much good for rabbits, some consider probiotics a waste of money. Probiotics are not known to cause any harm in rabbits though.

So, I clean my boxes every 2 days. Every 4 days is probably not enough, especially with just newspaper as bedding. I would even consider changing it daily while you are using newspaper.
I can’t really tell from the photo whether there is an egg….
My understanding is that there CAN be maggots in the box without them being on the bun…. but…[Read more]
