Maybe get your parents to practice handling him more so he gets used to it. Like starting off with a head massage (if he likes those or somewhere else he likes being pet) then slowly use the other hand to touch other parts of the body while still massaging where he likes it. He might start to enjoy being handled more by working slowly on it like…[Read more]

Sorry I don’t really have any helpful thoughts on which is the best decision, just wanted to add that in regards to his long fur and poop occasionally getting stuck, you can very carefully trim his fur short in that area which will help him stay clean until you’re home again for a visit and can trim him again.

I also very well may decide to bring him to school with me after a few semesters if I feel like he is not doing well at home without me, but I want to focus on my transition to grad school without having to worry about him going into another serious episode of stasis. If it seems like he is not doing well after 1 or 2 semesters, I will definitely…[Read more]

I think it was a combination of everything that caused the stasis. I was gone all day in class, there was noise from our upstairs neighbors, and he had to be in a confined area since he would tear up the carpet and chew on the baseboards in my apartment. I think it was just a combination of all of those changes to his environment that caused it in…[Read more]

Question – You said he lived in an apartment with you before and he was doing good. Are you sure the move back to your apartment is what caused the stasis episode? Or could it be a coincidence? I assume you will be living somewhere else since this is grad school instead of undergrad. Perhaps you can find a less noisy apartment?

Hi everyone. I am moving to grad school next week and I am looking for some advice regarding my rabbit. I adopted by rabbit, Mickey, when I was a sophomore in undergrad. Mickey lived at college with me and he did very well. When classes went completely online, Mickey came home with me for about 1 year. When it was time to move back to college…[Read more]

I’m glad he is using the litterbox more now. It really does sound like it was a litterbox/litter issue.

Yes, food-oriented toys tend to be more popular with bunnies that “don’t care for” toys.

There isn’t solid evidence that probiotics are beneficial. So yes, some vets may say they are a waste of money. Anecdotally, people have had good results from giving probiotics to their rabbits. And, as Bam said, you’re not going to hurt anything by giving them.

Benebac is the brand most people are familiar with. It’s sold on Amazon.

I’m sure she will go back to her pellets soon. Alfalfa hay is OK for now, but she really needs to eat more grass hay (in general). You can try different varieties. Some bunnies like oat hay, for example.

As Bam said, plain rolled oats are OK to give when a bunny is recovering from something or if they are elderly and having trouble maintaining…[Read more]

Hi I’m trying to flavour wood to give my bunnies more enrichment and encourage them to chew more as they don’t seem to chew very much no matter what I give them other than food. I have tried multiple ways and so far can’t seem to succeed. Can someone please give me some suggestions to try?

@Bam Thanks, I tried mushing a few slices of banana with her pellets which she definitely went for. I also tried adding her favorite topper mix to her pellets. She’s a smart bunny and immediately started sifting threw her pellets for the topper bits. Lol

As for her eating hay she really doesn’t touch her orchard grass hay, I do have some alfalfa…[Read more]

The only toy my Bam ever took any interest in was a treat ball. He was very food-oriented, so I guess he thought the treat ball was worthwhile 😂

Things just keep getting better! They’ve spent the last 6 hours munching and sleeping together, cuddling up and some bouts of 1 sided grooming. They even played together a little (wreaking havoc) and are sharing a (new) litter box together.

We’ve had one bicker today and that was when they were snuggled up together, side by side for about 30 mins…[Read more]
