happylop started the topic Swollen lip in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years ago

    Hello everyone,

I have a holland lop named Simba, is a little over six months old. He is super energetic, always jumping, hoping, and chewing his wooden toys (well, okay, sometimes the walls as well). He is roaming free.

Yesterday evening, his upper lip appeared swollen, and I would be tempted to say it appeared after he tried to jump on my bed…[Read more]

What technique or position do you use to hold her, if you don’t mind me asking? Some buns do better with certain holds. Giving an extra special treat after (I use raisins, dried cranberries are also popular!) is also helpful.

Using the bun-rito with a towel can be useful for giving meds with buns that don’t like handling as well (I have to do…[Read more]

I’m so not a winter person! I like winter when there’s plenty of snow and the lakes freeze so you can walk across them,  but that only hsppens here every 10 years. The other nine winters in between are dark, rainy and utterly depressing. (Yes, I know, I chose to be born in the wrong country 😖)

We have lovely weather here today and yesterday I…[Read more]

I so agree about having an abundance of hay (I’ve never used a screen). I get horse hay from a person who grows his own hay for his horses. I get a very good price so I can use it very freely. I do waste a lot, but all the waste hay goes into the garden, in the composts or straight into the pallet collars where I grow vegetables. It helps with the…[Read more]

    I’m sorry for your loss.

Your description of Binkie is beautiful. She clearly was deeply loved. It sounds like she had a wonderful life.

I agree with Dana, it does sound like something more serious than “just” GI stasis was going on. You did take her to the vet, they gave her meds. As you know, GI stasis is a symptom of something else, and the…[Read more]

Thanks for advice, I am happy to give her time and let her meet us on her own terms for pets. It’s not just for pets though, but those times I do have to hold her or such. Today she was gassy and I had to give her simethecone twice and a massage. She was terrified. (She’s fine now, and getting love from Dorian). Nail clippings, going to vet, it is…[Read more]

I have many critters, this stuff doesn’t damage the washer.

Shake them out, pop in washer with a bit of Lysol laundry sanitizer, all good.  If there are any pieces of hay left, it easily vacuums out.

I’m so sorry for your loss 🙁

We bunny owners always question what we could have done, what mistakes we made, and put all the guilt on ourselves. (my first post on BB over a decade ago was very similar to this… a RB post for my boy Bunston). It is clear from your post that you did what you thought was best at the time, and from what you…[Read more]

Oh no, I’m so sorry. 🙁  That’s really tough. I think your suspicion is correct, that the move was just a bit too much since they were a new bond.

I had a bond break on me in very similar fashion. They were seemingly bonded for 5 months, then out of nowhere there was a terrible fight and one bun needed stitches. I was in a somewhat similar…[Read more]

This sounds like a tough combination of personalities, so I admire your patience!

I’m a firm believer in experimenting with things when things aren’t going well or aren’t progressing. I would try the larger space (I’ve always had the best luck with larger spaces, and Margo DiMello of the San Diego HRS also uses very large spaces to bond groups…[Read more]

Can you set them up in a neutral area of your home temporarily? Such as a bathroom or another room they don’t spend much time in? Sometimes just a short stay in a neutral space will help them resolve these little disputes.

I do pretty much the exact same thing as Jersey! Agree that having a cheap and abundant source of hay makes like so much easier!

Hello, I am currently trying to bond a quad and thought maybe I should share/ask advice here. I’ve shared a little on Instagram, but IG isn’t the greatest for discussion.

SITUATION: All buns were free roam, spayed/neutered for at least a year. I had an existing pair (M1 & F1) that I bonded a year ago. A couple months ago, someone gave me their…[Read more]

That’s a good point @LBJ10. I know when I looked it up online, they made it sound like there was only 1 factory/plant in the whole U.S. that produced the Yesterday’s News pellets, and the newspaper recycling from that city and a few close cities were the only sources of paper for it. That was a surprise to me.

As for the Fresh News brand litter,…[Read more]

They are really on and off. I found them flopped next to each other earlier today. They were also grooming each other. But between these moments they would still be bickering. I’m really confused!

I couldn’t order the BB ones either (I’m in Australia) so I made a version of them using “hardware cloth”, the wire mesh. I just folded the edges in. But I did need to replace after a while because the edges would invariably start to come apart. The BB store one has sealed edges.

    These days I don’t use a screen.

Living close to horse farms cou…[Read more]

I lost my sweet baby Binkie… almost one year ago. September 24, the worst day of my entire life. I’m so sorry for the long post, but I just want to get this unbearable weight of my heart. It would mean the world to me if you read this.
