Correct, simethicone won’t really do anything for stasis. Simethicone is used to relieve gas. A bunny can have gas pain, which can eventually lead to stasis if it isn’t resolved. People will give simethicone to prevent things from progressing.
Does it actually work? That has been debated. Some people swear by it. Personally, I have had very good…[Read more]

My Wick broke his toe and after a lot of X-rays and follow up over several months with an exotic veterinary team (very rabbit savvy), it seemed unnecessary to amputate his toe. Yes it healed crooked and impacts his walk slightly now, but it is very livable.
Every case has different factors, so I’d…[Read more]

It depends on where the toe was broken and what other damage was done in the process of the toe breaking. Is the toe still pretty much in place? Or is it sticking out funny?

I agree with Dana, it would be better if someone could at least check on her more often. Her staying with your parents though sounds much more ideal. This way she is being monitored and getting plenty of attention, even if that “attention” is simply having the sounds of people around.
Hopefully she is doing better now.

Hmm, what about an extra special “boredom buster” toy that you can give him only in the evenings when it’s time for bed?
What are the main stress behaviors that he’s showing?

So, simethicone is not a motility medication. In cases of true stasis, it will not help. It can help if the rabbit is gassy by aiding in the passage of the gas. Simethicone is also not a pain med, so if the rabbit is suspected to be in pain and the simethicone doesn’t help right away (within a couple hours), a vet should be consulted.
I think…[Read more]

Often rabbit rescues will offer nail trimmings. If you search for rabbit rescues in your region you may have some luck with that!
An no need to apologize for posting lots! That’s what the forum is for!

How is she doing today?
Did you have a pet sitter checking on her during the time you were gone? Since problems can pop up and become serious within 24 hours, it’s best to have a pet sitter come twice a day just to make sure they are still doing well. Sorry if I misread your post though!

My bun recently broke one toe from his hind leg and I took him to the vet to get Xrays done but the doctor told me he would need surgery to either repair or amputate the toe. Apparently the cost would be $5k for amputation, however I don’t have the money as of now. Is there anything else I could do for the toe, at least in the meanwhile? They…[Read more]

So sorry to post so quickly after my other post. Someone I know is looking for a place that will clip their bunnies nails. Their vet will do it for like $20-$30 with an examination on top of that which is like $50-$60. She lives in Upstate NY–not saying where– and heard that some pet places will clip nails for cheaper. Can anyone help?

Damon was adorable 🥰
It really sounds like it was his time. It’s very hard for the human to make the decision to help a beloved pet cross over, but we do it because we love the pet and when we take on an animal, we also promise to not let the animal suffer when there’s no hope of recovery, if we can help it.
Saying goodbye is the bitter part of…[Read more]

It’s been a week since making this post but it really doesn’t feel like it. I just want to say thank you to all who read and to those who commented, it means a lot to me. Demon was in complete heart failure and his organs were shutting down and he had something going on where his back legs were giving out on him and the vet said he wouldn’t have…[Read more]

I start with simethicone baby gas drops alone plus elevation of the bunny butt to help gas escape. I also put the bun back on the floor away from its favorite resting spot so it has to hop that distance. Body movement sets the gut in motion.
If 2 doses of simethicone don’t make a difference, I give meloxicam, famotidine and sloppy Critical Care…[Read more]

It’s such a controversial topic. I asked on another forum and the thread almost got shut down because of the difference of opinion.
Do you find that it works on its own or do you give pain medication/ gut motility medication along with it?

I have used infacol with my buns. It’s not avsilable where I am, so I used to ask friends to buy it for me in the UK. Rhe taste seems to appeal to rabbits.
From what I can see in the ingredient list, it doesnt contain sugar. It contains saccharine and orange flavor. As you are saying, sugar can cause even more gas in an already gassy bun so…[Read more]

Hi all
I’m reading a lot of mixed reviews about INFACOL (Simethicone) for when bunnies have gas issues.
What are everyone’s thoughts on it? Have you found it actually works or will the sugar in it cause more issues in the bun?
Thanks

Snoa is so gorgeous. I just want to sink my hands into her fur.
Got a nice new bale of hay today for the buns. Looks nice and green too which is good, my last couple of bales have been a bit average.
