Glenn gave the exact advise I was going to say!
Completely agree with not worrying about who is “top”. Focus on preventing fights from occurring as much as possible. So if you aren’t sure if it’s going to escalate, do something to stop the interaction before it turns to fur pulling.
If you notice it’s just a chase, I agree you can wait a few…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Can rabbit live without veggies? in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 11 months ago
Agree with others, they are nice enrichment, but not 100% necessary.
Spring mix tends to be on the expensive side as far as bun veggies go.
A cheaper alternative is romaine. Cilantro is also usually pretty cheap in the spring and summer. You can also grow things for them yourself. It’s actually very easy to grow lettuce from seed indoors. You…[Read more]

Hmmm, i depends a bit on he bun. Some buns will go in their box no matter where you put it, others are more associated with a particular corner or spot in the room.
Is he 100% free roam? Perhaps you could just modify your current set-up a bit to make it less messy. Do you use a hay rack or a litter box screen? Adding a screen can really help with…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic should I screen for EC in Bun Jovi? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 11 months ago
Thanks everyone! I did make an appointment for him this week. For what it’s worth, the cataract DID seem to appear very suddenly. It wasn’t there at his last check up. So although he is old, it’s a new development.
And I was reading something that suggested that many cataracts in old rabbits may actually be due to EC. So we’ll see what the vet…[Read more]

Thanks so much for the update, and while it is a bummer that he didn’t take to the mobile support options, it sounds like you gave them a good attempt and if things change in the future, you have reliable referrals on what to try again. There’s also nothing wrong with a rabbit who happily receives cuddles more often 🙂 I’m sure he knows how…[Read more]

I didn’t even think of liver damage! I wonder how long that takes to heal? She has gained weight back. She was originally 1.42kg and is up to 1.68kg as of her last vet visit. The vet said he’d be more concerned if she wasn’t gaining weight. I just don’t know how to get her off the meds since it seems like every time I try to wean her off she goe…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Anxiety over rabbit with GI Stasis in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 11 months ago
It could be the malnourishment and weight loss threw her gut out of balance. Raoid weight loss can harm the liver. The liver is very good at repairing itself, but it takes time. She’s a bit too young to have serious dental issues, unless from some sort of trauma.
Does she eat her hay? Has she regained weight?
Some vets would be willing to…[Read more]

Hey everyone! I just wanted to add a quick update. (And on an extra happy note, it’s our bunniversary — 13 years since Teddy came home from the shelter! 🙂
So we did try a cart from dogstogo(dot)net, but unfortunately Teddy never progressed from panicking and trying desperately to squirm out of it, even after a week of practice. I do hi…[Read more]

Hey there, DanaNM! Sorry for my late reply but I just wanted to say I’m so sorry about these new challenges with Bun Jovi. I feel like he and Teddy are in a similar place lately and I’m sending hugs. I’m really glad you increased his meloxicam, fwiw.
I’m so sorry to hear the arthritis is progressing faster too. With Teddy, it didn’t affect hi…[Read more]

@jerseygirl thank you! He’s not as lethargic as he was, he’s starting to play again but he gets super tired quickly and has to lay down after a short run. Your Maple almost sounds like she had EC as well.
His heart was fine but unfortunately the vet found that one of kidneys was starting to look smaller than the other, they were both normal on…[Read more]

Thank you so much for your reply Bam! It really makes me feel so much less alone in this. Rue is about 7 months old  and not yet spayed. I was planning on having her spayed around now, but with all this going on I haven’t been able to. She may be may be molting but I can’t really tell. Since she’s been dealing with stasis she’s been on a hay and…[Read more]

You can put plain Neosporin (no pain reliever) on it if you want.

Im sorry you are going through this. Ive been in a similar situation.
First of all, a gurgling tummy is a million times better than a completely silent tummy. It means there is peristalsis (movement of the intestines). The literal meaning of the word stasis is complete stop of intestinal movement.
Have your vets said anything about a root cause…[Read more]

Hi everyone. My bunny Rue has been battling GI Stasis for the past month. She’s been on cisapride and has been back and forth from the vet numerous times. The last time I took her in about a week ago, the vet said that she was completely fine, her abdomen felt normal, she was alert, didn’t exhibit any signs of pain etc. so we should start wea…[Read more]

Thanks a lot Bam I’ll definitely take progress pics of it and keep a close eye.
Seriously trying to rack my brain and think how this could have happened! Is there anything I can do to help it heal?

Bam replied to the topic Unknown scab on body in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 11 months ago
I’d say keep an eye. Look out for swelling, redness, seepage and perhsps above sll, formstion of a growing lump underneath the skin.
To me it looks like a nip wound from another bun, if a vaccination jab is ruled out. Most wounds like this will heal just fine without any intervention, but you should still keep a close eye. It’s very good to…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Should I take him to the vet? in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 11 months ago
I think that is a wise move. If it had persisted, it would of course have been totally different. Should it return and not clear up, you can always get a new appointment. Since you are a highly concientious pet owner, you’ll routinely keep a close eye.
It’s just lovely that it cleared up 😊

Update, we canceled Thumper’s vet appointment. His face has cleared completely and he’s still being his normal self and I also got sick (sinus infection) and with being sick the vet won’t let me in even with a mask (which I always wear), my mom also convinced me that it’d be a waste of money to get him checked since he’s doing really well and…[Read more]

It does kind of look like a scab from a vaccine. But they haven’t gotten any shots recently, then I agree it could be from mounting.

They’re still at a ‘strict supervision’ stage with their bonding so I’ve never left them alone together so I’m almost positive it wasn’t him – even if their pens managed to get too close to one another, he could never reach that part of her body through the bars?
she hasn’t had any shots recently no but I guess I’m just concerned if there’s anyt…[Read more]
