Bunnies are weird. Sometimes just a new batch of hay if “off” and they don’t want it. You could try mixing things up a bit with orchard or oat hay.

I agree with Bam on possible causes. I also think you are doing all the right things in this situation. Keep it up!

I’m pretty sure they are stored/dried for the appropriate amount of time. Let me check with BB.

We’re all rooting for little Buster here. Buster is a lucky little guy, he found owners that clearly are doing all they can for him.

Overgrowth of bad bacteria could cause this, and its treatable with the appropriate antibiotics. It’s not very rare in baby buns, but it often manifests as watery/mucosy stools. This is very often fatal due to rapid and severe dehydration Luckily, Buster doesnt seem to suffer from what is known as true diarrhoea.
Your vet is correct that…[Read more]

Thank you so much! I completely missed that. Wow, she will flip over this. Can’t wait!
(One concern – how do we know these things are safe, given Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease? Can’t it be spread through foliage?)

I’ll try that thanks!! Thankfully shes back to eating more hay 🙂
She is super picky and wastes a bunch of hay so I put it all into an empty botanical hay bag thinking maybe when she sees me take it out of that bag she’ll think it’s new and eat it 😂 I haven’t tried it yet but I highly doubt she’ll fall for it lol.
Once in a while I sprinkle some…[Read more]

I posted this on another forum but no one had sure answers after I posted the video, so I’m copy-pasting it here to see if anyone has any insight. (There was one person who was very helpful but no response after I posted the video)
So I’ve had a semi free-roam neutered bunny for about 3 years (Syrup). I moved into a new apartment a couple of…[Read more]

@BZOO, I’m sorry, I didn’t see the extra replies on this thread until now. I’m so glad your bunnies like the dietary supplement treats. my bun goes crazy for her urinary support tab (the Oxbow natural science one). I will have to check out Sherwood, thank you for telling me about them! I second the binky bunny toys. There’s some called…[Read more]

I have 2 males and they do the same thing. I made hideous for them out of Boxes I put their uneaten hay from their hay tray into the boxes and they love it! They sleep on it and eat it.
I was told to sprinkle dried herbs on their hay I have not done that yet.
I also use 2 different kinds of hay mixed together. A 9 lb box lasted for over 2 months…[Read more] -

Microfiber is quite a bit more effective than terry cloth or other towels. I used the type of towels they sell for dogs, they’re really great and not expensive.
All buns have their own personalities, so yes, every method must be adapted to the individual you’re dealing with.

Thank you for the great ideas. I will ask her about the famotidine. I’ve been feeding black sunflower seeds.
I think maybe snuggles has a different temperament, as any time I try to get her to sit in any one place, be it a shallow tub or a litter box etc, she just immediately jumps away, the exception being if I put some unhealthy food in front…[Read more]

I think it was good that you gave her motility drugs as prescribed. They’re not “strong” drugs, and megacolon buns might need them regularly.
Sometimes mucus in poop means overgrowth of “bad” anaerobic bacteria. I had a bun that got metronidazole for mucus-y poop. The mucus was hard and gel-like. More commonly, mucus in the stools of an adult…[Read more]

Thank you for the update!
Great that you took him in! It’s good that he pooped a little. You couldn’t have done more for him at home. The supportive care you gave was most likely very important, since rabbits dont do well at all on an empty stomach. You’ve kept him in good enough condition for the vet to be hopeful of his recovery, and that’s…[Read more]

He loves to play but not with any kinda toy. I gave him a cardboard box and he ignored that. I’ve got a lot of work done today more than expected and I think if I carry on persevering tomorrow I can get the yard done so he could be out running about tomorrow. I will also be joining on his original pen to it so he can go out when ever he wants once…[Read more]

My rabbit usually goes crazy for her hay and everytime I give her a handful she eats it all in one sitting. But for the last 2 days she hasn’t seemed to want much. She’s acting completely normal otherwise. She’s eating all her veggies and pellets.
I had a problem with this a few weeks ago, so I reduced her pellets from 2 to 1 tablespoon a day and…[Read more]
