Another thing you can try is to syringe her some water (or bunny electrolytes if you have it). Sometimes hydration really helps. My bun Myra used to have a lot of issues during molting and hydration helped her a lot.

Definitely keep offering her whatever she will eat!

it could be that the other bunny is eating more pellets, so feeding her separately for a a time could help make sure she’s getting enough pellets.

I just called the only rabbit savvy vet that I know of and they couldn’t get her in until next week. Thankfully I just found another one that has a few good reviews of bunny owners and they do treat gi stasis. They got me in for an emergency visit in a few hours. Hopefully this place is knowledgeable on rabbits. I wish there was something closer,…[Read more]

You have got good advice already. Gasdrops, a light tummy massage, elevate the butt so gas can escape, encourage movement, f ex by carrying her to a place that she’ll want to hop away from (if she doesnt hop away, just sinks to the floor where you put her down, it’s not a good sign). Sometimes you’ll need to repeat these things over and over.

    I…[Read more]

I was really trying to avoid a vet trip because usually she gets better within 2 or 3 hours and the vet is so expensive and far away. But she still hasn’t ate yet 🙁 I gave her some belly massages and heard one gurgle from about a foot away from her. If I put my ear up to her belly I can hear very low gurgles. She hasn’t improved in about 5 hours…[Read more]

One final question and I promise I won’t bother you anymore. I assume that they get jealous like any other animal so I try to be equal in attention. However should I always feed pay attention  to the one who seems to be the dominant one in order not to have her target the younger one. They are only a month difference in age but I suppose that co…[Read more]

She lives with the other female bunny they always eat together, she eats plenty of hay as well as her pellet food they also get some greens from time to time. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do except look after her as best I can and hope shes ok. The country is in a dire state, getting help for anything right now is very difficult to…[Read more]

@dana Thank you so much for such a detailed response. I am a bit disappointed in the breeder not being fully honest with me. As I mentioned earlier my son (age 10) had gone through a year of chemotherapy and all he had been asking for was a bunny. I told him he could after we knew he would be strong enough to enjoy it. He’s very good with pets a…[Read more]

My carpet chewers love cardboard cat scratchers!

I think it was @Wick&Fable that hung up the fleece strips for Fable. 🙂

I think waiting to see what needs to be bunny-proofed is a good idea! It helps to get on the floor level and supervise the bun closely at first to see what they are most interested in.

Here are some of the things that have been essential for me:

-Heavy ceramic tiles to block any “hot spots” where they dig or chew the carpet. My buns that loved…[Read more]

*Shakes fist at breeders who do this*

Unfortunately this is a really common and frustrating occurrence. Unlike other small pets (e.g. guinea pigs, rats, etc), female rabbits tend to be more territorial and will fight if they are unspayed and not bonded properly, as LBJ10 has explained.  If you are able and willing to put in the work, you should…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic My bunny pees on my bed in the forum BEHAVIOR 3 years, 9 months ago

Yeah some buns just like to pee on soft things and beds especially. I know one member would put a shower curtain under a thin blanket on top of the bed. It helped protect the bedding, but also blocked the scent of the bed so the bun marked less as well. There are also lots of water proof puppy blankets available now that might serve the same purpose.

DanaNM replied to the topic Valerian, CBD oil? in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 9 months ago

I haven’t tried valerian, but I have given my senior a bit of CBD for his arthritis. It did seem to help him at first, but then seemed to stop helping noticeably after a few days. I switched up his pain meds and stopped giving it for the time being just because I didn’t want to be giving him too many things at once.

DanaNM replied to the topic Suddenly not interested in hay? in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 9 months ago

My buns have always been very picky about “pet store” hay. Once I started getting hay by the bale from feed shops they tuck in with gusto!

Weight loss is a pretty serious symptom of illness. Is she living on her own and eating the same amounts as the other rabbits?

In the morning she gets 1/2 a cup of veggies (usually romaine, green leaf, and cilantro) with 1/2 tablespoon pellets.

In the evenings she gets 1 cup of veggies (romaine, green leaf, a handful of cilantro with another herb or two) and 1/2 tablespoon pellets.

She has unlimited hay and usually eats quite a bit of it. Last night she didn’t eat…[Read more]
