Thanks for the reassurance, sorry you’ve also had dental buns.
How old did they get too with the regular dentals and how often were they if you don’t mind me asking. I guess its just nice to see what I could be expecting going forward and how it might affect their life expectancy with the regular anesthetic.
Thanks!

I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this. I too think it’s their breed that’s causing this. If they didnt have an excellent diet, the problem would have been worse.
We have had rabbits here that had regular dentals until they were very old. In some buns, the dentals are needed less and less often once the teeth have been adjusted so they wear…[Read more]

Well I took them both to the vets yesterday as Glenn started to get selective with his food too.
Turns out they BOTH need a dental! I am now dealing with two poorly buns, two lots of medication twice a day, two lots of malformed cecotropes and mushy poops I guess from the dietary upset! It is difficult, they are both doing okay though and still…[Read more]

They’d be 100% safe from predators outside. Nothing can get in and nothing can get out. Its already bunny proofed with wire mesh. My male bunny already lives out there. I was thinking maybe putting them in the dog cage for the night but have them out in there pen during the day.
The other option was shutting the male bunny away and have the two…[Read more]

The only down side of wearing lots of cloths indoors or extra clothing at night to keep warm is that I will sweat then in the morning I wake up all damp and then not being able to wash and running out of clean clothing makes it worse, with the kitchen sink being constantly blocked I’m not able to run my washing machine. The cold sweats are the…[Read more]

Yes, it looks like excess cecotropes with regular poops stuck to them. I wouldn’t be overly worried. It very well could be all of the diet changes. It may be a good idea to walk it back a little bit and then reintroduce things more slowly.

No I haven’t checked. These rabbits do not like to be picked up.
tonight when I gave them their dinner the one that is acting like eeyore stood up on his hind legs for the first time so that was a good sign
tomorrow I’m going to let them out one at a time briefly.

Sorry I’ve only just seen this reply! Freya is a heavy water drinker so I don’t think she noticed the change. In a full bowl of water I’d do a few drops 🙂
Have you otherwise noticed it get any better or worse from the advice everyone else has given?

She’s SUCH a pretty girl and I’m sooo very grateful she’s a cuddly bun! I feel like over the last month or so she and I have really truly bonded, she will come and lay down between my feet or snuggle up to my thighs and stay for AGES and she always returns kisses – an absolute sweetheart of a bunny <3

yeah, I was logged in when I made the initial cart (because it kept sending me emails every few days reminding me that I hadn’t finished my purchase.) Yes, the system auto logged me out after a few weeks, but when I logged in again yesterday, everything was gone, unfortunately. I was able to piece together bits of it using those emails.

You should keep the bonded buns together, although yes it can be hard to tell who’s pooping. Also feel free to try dif recovery foods. My buns do like emeraid a lot more than critical care but buns have have preferences for certain foods. Some buns will eat it if you mix it into more of a dough and offer it that way.
Each rabbit’s recovery is…[Read more]

Thank you for rescuing him! And you have the right idea by not making too many changes at once.
I would cut out most veggies and fruit for the time being, and focus on getting his hay consumption up. The poops don’t look too bad, but are likely some excess soft cecotropes from the diet changes. Also be sure to only include a tiny bit of the new…[Read more]

I just rescued a quite old male bun from a family member. he’s never been fed a correct diet so I’m trying to fix that. I believe he was just fed pellets and occasional fruit. I brought him home yesterday, he settled without too much stress, I offered hay, a mix of his original pellets with higher quality ones, and fresh greens and tiny fruit.…[Read more]

He was given a buprenorphine injection yesterday at his visit but none sent home, I will definitely reach out to them again and obtain some. Thank you, I have been using the big syringe to give 5mL but will go back to 1mL syringe. I definitely had more success with that when I initiated CritCare before. Thank you so much for these suggestions,…[Read more]

Ah that is frustrating! Were you logged in to the store when this happened? Maybe you got logged out and so it’s not showing up, but will show up if you log back in?
This is mostly for issues with the forum itself, but I’ll pass this message along to the appropriate people!
You can also use the contact form in the store to mention this issue.

DanaNM replied to the topic Timothy hay get wasted! in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 9 months ago
Good point about using a hay rack or feeder! I have a little system where I put fresh hay in the hay rack, and then the old picked over hay from the rack goes into the box. They tend to prefer to eat the hay from the litter box, so they will actually eat some they may have passed over the first time once it’s in the litter box.
