I saw your post in the chat thread and have been thinking about it. First of all, EC can cause microscopic brain lesions that may persist long after the active EC infection has been adequately subdued. Lesions like that may or may not heal on their own, given time. Small brain lesions can cause seizures.
Your description of the episode reminds me…[Read more]

I’ve spoken about this in the chat thread but wanted I update in here for my own reference so everything is in one place.
Monday 2nd January 2023 Apollo had another neurological episode. The camera shows him struggling to walk around, stumbling to his left. He wees on the rug (seemed he couldn’t jump into the litter tray) and then lays down.…[Read more]

I change her litter every 2 days and used a 20L bag which lasted me 2 months, but have now just bought a 30L which is their biggest. I’ve gone up to 3 days without much odour unless you have your nose right up to the litter of course but think I could have gone an extra day. I also use Cage fresh granules which I think also helps with the smell a…[Read more]

Thank you guys! Her poops seem normal, but there is definitely swelling under her right cheek this time 🙁 We’re going to contact the vets to visit asap, it seems like another abscess.

Buns can have mites and be asymptomatic. They can also come in on hay. It would be OK to keep an eye on it and see if it heals or gets worse. If it keeps getting worse then you should def go to your vet.

I checked the ears of his partner and her ears are fine. They’re both indoors so mites were not on my radar. He is not scratching the ear excessively which I think would be odd if it were mites, right?

I personally prefer (bagged) potting-soil to sand, ever since I read about sand colic in horses, but I don’t know if sand colic applies to rabbits, since wild rabbits prefer to live and dig out their warrens in sandy soil. When I gave my bun a dig box with sandbox-sand for human kids, she actually tried to eat the sand, so I took it away. I think…[Read more]

So today is the day of Budja’s surgery, I will be bringing her in shortly.. In addition to a biopsy I also asked about getting a culture done so I will be getting her surgery done, a biopsy of the abscess site, and a culture to see what antibiotics will be effective. Thankfully they should be able to remove the entire capsule of the abscess…[Read more]

I was going to go with bites from mounting too. But if the redness/irritation goes down into the ear, then it could be mites as Dana suggested.
