Thanks Dana. I hate that both of them have this issue, it’s always a horrible feeling of I might lose one of them and I can’t even rush them to an emergency vet. It’s always around molting and I don’t believe it’s fur ingestion, suspect it’s some hormonal change or such. Dorian never got as bad as Miu did, but he still was in so much pain and I…[Read more]

LBJ10, I did actually bring this up to the vet and they said it was possible, though it is commonly used when the abscess site is left open, in Budja’s case they have been able to excise the abscess and the capsule in it’s entirety twice now. I did a little more research on that last night and it seems, if the incision is closed there can be a…[Read more]

I’m really sorry that happened, it definitely sounds like it was some bone issue or genetic problem was at play for sure. When I rescued Budja’s I was told she approximately 1.5 years old which was around last November, so that would make her about 2.5 now. She was living outside in a hutch after already being rehomed once before and the person…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Excessive mounting & fur pulling in bonded pair in the forum BEHAVIOR 3 years, 3 months ago
A final thought is that excessive mounting can also be a symptom of a urinary problem. Sometimes sludge or stones can cause irritation to the urinary tract that triggers mounting. One of my buns will mount more when he gets more calcium in his diet as well. If the neutral space doesn’t help I would have him checked out by the vet just to be sure!

I’m very sorry you lost Elmer.
I too think it was something genetic/congenital, something you could not have known about, since he didnt display any symptoms of illness before this happened. He was dearly loved and excellently cared for by you.
I too had a bun who played with my feet when I sat at my desk. It was annoying at first, but I soon…[Read more]

Thankyou so much for the replies! I can’t think of anything that would’ve caused stress apart from the vet trip but that was about a month ago.
I’ll definitely try some neutral bonding again!

Obsessive humping can sometimes be a sign of stress.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Bunny proofing cords in the forum BEHAVIOR 3 years, 3 months ago
Yes, PVC pipes are the way to go. Probably the most bunny-proof of the “cord protectors” available. You can use the soft tubing, but a determined bunny will eventually chew through those if you’re not paying attention.

I’m sorry you didn’t get good news. Did the vet ever consider using antibiotic beads with either of the surgeries? It’s where these beads with an antibiotic in them are surgically implanted at the abscess site after the bulk of the abscess has been removed. They are typically used when the infection is in the bone, so it’s possible the vet didn’t…[Read more]

I’m very sorry for your loss. I agree, it does sound like a congenital problem. It isn’t unheard of for a young bunny to die suddenly due to a heart defect. You see it in other animals, like dogs and cats too. Please don’t blame yourself, you did everything right. It sounds like he was very loved.

<p class=”p1″>Wow what a handsome guy! I’m so sorry your Elmer passed away. The same kind of thing happened to my bunny named Betty. She was completely fine the day before she died, was acting strange/sad the day she died. She laid down as died very shortly after. The truth is about young bunny’s is a lot have health problems before the par…[Read more]

Hmmm, vet visits can sometimes trigger issues due to one rabbit smelling weird. Other triggers can be illness in one rabbit or seasonal changes (longer days can trigger some hormonal behaviors). If both rabbits seem healthy and things tend to resolve on their own (don’t turn to a fight) without you intervening, it’s best to just monitor and let…[Read more]

Sadly that bun passed away, but not from the abscess. His case was a bit different because his molars were basically just rotting and falling out of his head, and they never knew why (he was only 1.5). The first abscess resolved with surgery and injections, but he had several other molars extracted after that. several months later he passed away…[Read more]

Yeah, they are currently in the process of calling them and trying to get a quote/schedule something in for me. I mean I asked about elongated roots being a possibility, something in one of her gums (because of the repetitive chewing motions) heck I’ve heard stories where a rabbit does this if it happened to get a piece of small hay stuck in the…[Read more]

Hi everyone,
I have a pair of bunnies (both aged 3). They have been bonded for about a year with no issues.
Out of nowhere, the male bunny Bailey is excessively mounting his female partner Cooper, and pulling out hair on her back. The only thing I can relate this to is it started soon after his vaccines.
They go back to lying together and…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for your loss. 🙁 Based on his age, it sounds like it could have been a congenital issue, such as a heart attack due to a heart defect, or something of that nature.
It sounds like he was very loved and lucky to have you, although his time was short.

I’m very sorry to hear this, that is not great news. 🙁 I think it would be good to at least get a quote on the CT scan. Costs have come down on them a bit. I say this because unfortunately the CT might reveal the problems are more extensive than realized. It would not be good news, but knowing whether curing them is even possible would save you…[Read more]
