Thank you so much for your reply and kindness <3

I have a heating pad going for him and several blankets, trying to keep him nestled. He is moving a bit on his own, changing his position and moving off of the heat pad if he gets too hot. I did get some LRS fluids and needles to administer at home every 12h.

Good to know about Metacam, too — he…[Read more]

Thanks for the help guys! Using your apps I found some plants that look similar, I think the apps called them pussytails or cat paws.

Thank you for your reply! Yes, he did poop some last night but not since then, so hoping he will more tonight..

That was my fear with motility drugs; I think they prescribed them initially because they thought it was a standard case of stasis. However, once the x-Ray showed the blockage, I don’t know why that vet went along with that. Do you…[Read more]

You can switch to hay only all at once.

If it is her pellets, then you can try a different kind before resorting to a pellet-free diet plan. The ingredients between the Oxbow Simple Harvest and Essentials are pretty different even though they are the same brand.

From what I understand, motility drugs should not be used if there is a complete blockage. You said he pooped some, but has since gotten worse?

I’m sorry that you’re going through this, especially since your vet has been unavailable. I’m surprised they didn’t try to squeeze you in between surgeries. My vet will do that. Even if they are…[Read more]

    Hello,

Just posting here to get some advice from other rabbit owners!

My 1.5-year-old Mini Rex, Loki, appeared to have signs of GI stasis yesterday morning. Noticed it when I first woke up – he refused greens and stomach seemed bloated, not passing any fecal matter and did not eat his cecetropes. (He did have his usual dinner the previous n…[Read more]

I’m so sorry you are going through this, true blockages are very scary. 🙁

I think the best you can do until he can see his regular vet tomorrow is to keep up the supportive care, especially keep him warm and hydrated. Encouraging gentle movement is good too. Did they give you sub-q fluids to give at home? Metacam metabolizes very quickly (in…[Read more]

So frustrating! I think it would also be OK to give them more pellets than normal. Hopefully you can get some soon!

I do have a question, if I find out that pellets are what is causing this gas do I need to give her supplements or anything like that to make up for them? I know a lot of their nutrients come from pellets.

I used to give her the digestive one and the skin & hair one.

When i used to feed her those, she would get gas randomly. She has a very simple diet, just hay and pellets  – rarely any fruits and veggie. So i know it had to be the oxbow hay tabs, because the next day she would get gassy.

She hasn’t had any gas problem since i stopped giving her…[Read more]
