Hi and thank you for the answers!
Yes, you’re right – it is some gas versus true bloat.
The vet has him on a hay only diet as I expected. Luckily, he is chowing down on his hay. He has a great appetite and his poops are normal. A lot of them and a good size.
His belly still looks/feels “off” to me as in it feels really rounded. Like a pot…[Read more]

It is pretty small, but temporarily giving them space near each other and since they will rotate having time out to exercise, seems like it could work. I know with mine, I’d worry about them having too much pent up energy and being counter productive, but I think you will be able to sense if it starts to get to that point.

In any case, that’s still in the “safe” zone. If you keep a fan on and pointed at the buns they will be more comfortable throughout the temp fluctuations, and if it gets over 80 F you can give them a frozen water bottle or tile to lay on. In the summer I keep a fan pointed at one area of my buns’ pens and they often lay right in front of it. Myra…[Read more]

I did some measuring and if I reduce their pens to 2 ft x 6 ft (which seems so small to me lol) I can fit them all in the living room pretty easily. So maybe I’ll give that a go?
All of their heels have gotten calluses from all the bonding sessions on hard flooring so I can also add extra soft flooring in there to help their feet heal up.

My dad keeps the house 73°f-76°f and yells at my mom if it’s 80 and she turns the AC on in the kitchen and it was 76-79 in my room alone (I don’t remember the exact temperature, it was above 75 I know that)

that’s tricky. I spoke to a friend at the rescue I used to volunteer at about mine and she suggested something that is more commonly used in dogs and other animals (such as in zoos when they need to introduce a new animal into a group). They will do training sessions with the animals in the same area (starting out far away and then moving closer…[Read more]

Possibly. It’s tough because the first bite yesterday was immediate, and they didn’t lay close or seem better until 5.5 hours. I don’t want to keep going once they are good because in the past Maxwell got bitey again after too long, and made it harder to end on a good note. Basically I try and wait until they seem OK, sometimes 2 hours, sometimes…[Read more]

I understand the dilemma! That is a good idea to consult an architect, lol.

Here they are at the end the other day. The only good thing is despite all the bites, Snoopy hasn’t been fighting back and still wants to be friends.

That’s a neat idea with the bed frame! I’d like to avoid splitting the area with fencing and gates if possible… we already have so many gates! We will have a roommate for a few months and I don’t want to subject her to our craziness lol. I think in order for me to not give up the set-up has to feel very “live-able”.
Maybe I need to consult my…[Read more]

I wonder if you might need to try super short sessions to break this association?
Do they respond well to petting? Like, if they approach each other and you pet them, do they relax?

Yes, and they are full on bites. Last night looks like Maxwell got a big chunk of fur out of Snoopy through the gates. They are small grids and didn’t think they could do that much, plus it’s been over 3 months! There were small bits of fur here and there before but hadn’t seen anything in a long time. That said, yeah mine are not doing well at…[Read more]

I agree with Dana, this sounds like gas, not true bloat. The reason he smells poopy could be that he is passing gas.
True bloat means theres a blockage somewhere in the gi canal so gas and intestinal content cant pass through. Gas builds up and puts pressure on the internal organs, to the point where the lungs get so compressed they cant…[Read more]

Sounds like a good plan! If there is any furniture you could move out temporarily, that’s what I would do (I’ve had a lot of temporary set ups the last few years haha). Can you split areas with gates?
Also, I had an extra bed frame in my basement with the bunnies. I ended up putting big pieces of cardboard on it so they could have another “floor”…[Read more]

There could still be some leftover “stuff” in her ear. It can make them feel itchy. The vet should be able to look in there and remove whatever debris might have been trapped in there.

Isn’t 75F, like, normal room temperature in the summer? It may feel a bit warm to bunnies if it warms suddenly, but 75 is no where near the danger zone. This is especially true if they are inside, not in the heat of the sun, have a fan blowing on them, etc.

Squinting in one eye may be something to be concerned about. But there is no discharge? No cloudiness?

After a few days at my new job I decided I want to keep trying for the trio because it’s really hard to spent time with the buns in different areas of the house now that I’m not working from home every day, but I’m going to have to rethink their housing set ups during bonding. Having all three in the kitchen wasn’t working, but having them split…[Read more]
