Bam replied to the topic Bunny has a certain schedule? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 10 months ago
It does sound normal. Rabbits tend to rest a lot during the day, esp if they’re alone and nothing is going on. When they rest, they will poop a lot less than when they’re active.
It’s reasonable to think that it was the introduction of greens that caused the gas. In general rabbits can ve started on greens at around 3 months of age, but that’s…[Read more]

I know moderator Wick has experience with prednisone for a bun with thymoma. Her bun Fable was on prednisone for several months. It absolutely prolonged her life. I will alert Wick to this thread.

How is he doing now? He does seem to need a vet now. The gurgling sounds means things are moving, but there is gas. The gas has to come out. This is my favorite bunny massage video, at around 4 minutes Mary S Cotter demonstates how to very gently elevate the bunny butt to help gas escape:
The rabbit in the video is…[Read more]

Does anyone have experience giving prednisone to a bun with lymphoma? I found a lump on my rabbit a few weeks ago and when tested it came back positive for lymphoma. He is still acting totally normal- eating, poopy, energetic- but his vet recommends starting prednisone now to try to slow down the spread/tumor growth.
His vet prescribed him an…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic need advice about dog issue with my buns in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 10 months ago
You need to keep the rabbits separated from the dogs in this situation. I think the suggestion of improving the basement for them to exercise in is a good one, or just keep them in the smaller room with the door shut.
The risk of something going wrong is too high in this situation for them to be in any areas the dogs have access to.
Sorry you…[Read more]

Sorry I was clear, I meant their litter box pellets. I use wood pellets, probably like stove pellets but this is marketed as cat litter. There is hay on top, but sometimes they go through it, I am trying to make sure there is a good layer of hay on top of it.
I included a photos of their current favorite napping spots. I think their room may be…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Rescued bunny flinches hard when I touch him but doesn't run away in the forum BEHAVIOR 2 years, 10 months ago
It’s funny, I have a bun (Myra) who is also a Californian and I’ve learned she has VERY sensitive ears. She will sometimes flinch if I pet her ears to quickly, or try to give her cheek rubs sometimes. When I give her ears a massage she will always shake her head and scratch them after. At first I thought she might have a dental or an ear problem…[Read more]

Gotcha! Hopefully you can find a vet that’s more affordable! Sometimes the vets that don’t do many spays charge more, but the ones that are more experienced and do more spays actually charge less.
And yes as long as you spay in the first couple of years she will be fine. 🙂

Thanks for filling out the template! How long
Things don’t sound to be going too badly, but I think given Charlie’s history he may benefit from a more gentle strategy. But it honestly sounds like it’s going OK and they may just need more time. It sounds like the main issue is that Julia has groomed him but he hasn’t groomed back? What happens…[Read more]

i’m giving him simethicone. unfortunately, he hasn’t pooped or eaten hay the past 7 hours. He has eaten some greens, though he’s at the moment not looking well at all.
He’s visibly bloated, I can also feel it when I touch his belly. And he started doing the characteristic “pressing his belly/back end on the floor” and seems to be straining to…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic I'm Back with a Third! in the forum BONDING 2 years, 10 months ago
She suggested working with each pair-combo daily! So start with two, then swap out one for the other bun, then swap again, so you do the three combos in a row if possible. I think in your case that might be a good strategy. You could plan to start with the boys, then swap in Ruby for Maxwell, then swap Maxwell back in for Snoopy so you end with…[Read more]

I didn’t even think of that, now that you said it, he does poop a lot more at night/early in the morning. That makes sense.
He was on simethicone last week for 3 days, I might give him some more again, I read that it doesn’t really harm them even if there isn’t gas. Thank you!

It is completely lovely that he’s eating a lot of hay!! The importance of hay for rabbit GI health (incl teeth, they are an important part of the GI system) cannot be exaggerated.
Simethicone is as a rule given once per hour for a few hours when s bun first presents with inappetence. Then you can give it every 2 hours. Simethicone is not absorbed…[Read more]

Yup, I still have the gas drops, the doctor 10 days ago told me to give him simethicone for 3 days. I will give him some more again to see if it helps.
I see, yeah, I don’t think it’s megacolon either, it’s just what mostly pops up when I search for very large poops and his colors seemed to match, and he’s a dwarf/lionhead mix, not of the english…[Read more]

Do you have simethicone baby gas drops? They wont harm but they could help with the gas. (There’s little scientific evidence for its use with rabbits, since simethicone is designed for human babies, who can burp. Rabbits cant burp, but they certainly can pass gas from their other end).
Getting him to move around would probably be the best thing…[Read more]

It isn’t unusual for there to be mucus as they recover from a bad stasis episode. I guess I wouldn’t be too alarmed yet as long as he is still pooping and things seem to be progressing.
It’s normal for poop production to slow during the day when bunnies are mostly sleeping. So I wouldn’t take him not pooping for a couple of hours as a bad sign.…[Read more]
