Hi everyone, so my bunny is frequently suffering from gi stasis perhaps 4 or 5 times a year and the problem is always solved with baby gas drops. My question here is why does it happen so often and all of a sudden because her diet consists of hay and pellets and her poops are amazing shape and color, she is also free roaming so she exercises a lot…[Read more]

Does your bunny chew constantly or just take “test bites” here and there? I agree that bunnies will naturally want to test boundaries and a little nibble on the bars just to make sure they are solid isn’t going to hurt anything.

As Adrian says, putting hay in the litterbox and adding several “hay stations” around the bunny area can help up hay consumption. Rabbits seem to like “found” hay better than served hay. Just putting small piles of hay here and there on the floor can help. One of my buns eats a lot of hay if he can sneak into the hay source, aka the big hay bag.…[Read more]

What type of peeing are you observing? Litter trained rabbits can start to pee outside the box for both normal reasons and abnormal.
A normal reason for peeing outside the box is pee marking. It often, but not always, means pee spraying. The rabbit often chooses the humans’ favorite spots, like their beds or on the sofa. A rabbit that starts to…[Read more]

Not all bonded rabbit couples cuddle all the time. Mine cuddle quite a bit, but they also do stuff on their own. Theyre not from the same litter or breeder (both are rescues), my girl is a year older than the boy. It is however completely normal for bonded buns to be a lot less interested in their humans than single buns typically are.
I read…[Read more]

I’ve experienced this on multiple occasions. I have both males and females that grew up in the same litter and are generally friendly towards one another, but will suddenly go on rampages trying to bite and pull fur. I’ve found that this can be the result of inadequate space, as the males would fight nonstop until I let them free roam, now the…[Read more]

Aside from the financial devastation ($400-$600 to fix a bunny where I live), there really isn’t a reason not to fix them since reproductive ailments are very common in unfixed rabbits as they age. I’m not sure if your vet brought this up, but I would be a little concerned if they didn’t at least mention it. Besides getting him fixed, some peopl…[Read more]

That is very encouraging! Thank you for your responses! Luna and Leo were not from the same litter but we had him neutered and we never ended up getting luna spayed. It did appear to us as if she was the dominant lol. They groomed each other but she sometimes she humped him in a weird way lol… sometimes we felt like they were in a fight but not v…[Read more]

My Lionhead bunnies also occasionally chew on the bars despite free roaming most of the day and spending the rest of their time in an enclosure that consists of 3 playpens put together. I believe they have a natural tendency to test the boundaries of their environment. They don’t usually enjoy coming in and would rather free roam even if they h…[Read more]

I’m very sorry you lost Luna. Practically all rabbit illness first manifests as inappetence. Often its “just” about indigestion and a bit of gas, but even really grave illness will as a rule first show up as refusal to eat. Since you did take Luna to a rabbit savvy vet and she received treatment, I’d suspect that something was very wrong with her,…[Read more]
