What strenght Metacam do you have? (8 ml sounds like very big dose. Do you mean 0.8? Normal dose for rabbits is 0.3 -1.5 mg per kilo body weight. Metacam is either 0.5 mg/ml or 1.5 mg/ml)

Biscuit@Smores started the topic Submissive rabbit over grooming Dominant rabbit in the forum BEHAVIOR 2 years, 8 months ago
Hello! I have 2 rabbits, both male and neutered. I have had them for around 7 years, and both are littermates. This recent issue started a few days ago.
My submissive rabbit (Smores) has been overgrooming my dominant rabbit(Biscuit). Biscuit seemed fine with it at first, before attempting to groom his brother back, only for him to refuse. Smores…[Read more]

He seems in pain, not sure if the metcam is working. He got 8ml. Supposed to wait 12hrs. That seem enough?

BrunosMama ! Hi!👋🏼
Im not on here much these days but it was nice surprise to find a post from you.
What a cutie you have there! I don’t really have any grooming tips, just envy.I do recall Bunnytowne has some good recs from when she has that long haired white bun. I think was a teddy lion head? She always kept her looking fabulous. I try see i…[Read more]

@PatrickW try sourcing done Karen hay that has more seed heads in it. Or even offer a oaten and wheaten mix.
I often give bowls for the fine hay that falls to bottom of bag or box from a bale too. It’s like chaff. My theory is they take less energy to process it because don’t need to chew so much. And they seem to enjoy it.
Rabbits can lose wei…[Read more]

We had a few days of really bad heat, which the buns survived but seems to have triggered a really heavy molt in Dorian. I groomed him last night and he was fine. But this morning he refused his pellets and hasn’t eaten anything.
I started with simethecone and when after a couple hours that seemed to not be helping I gave him the metcam…[Read more]

Adrian Grant replied to the topic Questions about rehoming bunnies in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 8 months ago
At the moment, there are only a couple vets within my county that treat rabbits, but I don’t really have an established relationship with any of them. I will try calling them and asking for references. The gifting situation also makes me wary since I’m not talking to the person who will actually take care of them. This makes it difficult to kno…[Read more]

I will try some of the rabbit niche websites in the guide. I was also thinking of asking them for setup pictures since it might be the only way know for sure. Im wondering if I should just ask for the picture straight away before going through the questions or if that might make them uncomfortable. I don’t want them to feel like I’m being int…[Read more]

Have you tried asking your vet if they can help in any way? Sometimes a vet will know of someone who can give a rabbit a good home, or they might put up a notice of rabbits for adoption in their office. A notice in a vet’s office should be safer than posting on Craig’s List.
Rabbits, or any animals, should not be given as gifts, so that would m…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Stubborn Mystery Upper Respiratory Illness 🙁 in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 8 months ago
It may be coincidental since it’s a single case, but my Wick had atypical syphilis, though symptomatically his scabs (which for him was only around the mouth) only appeared after he contracted ringworm.
Before all the ringworm, he had a URI that took about 5-6mo to resolve. Ultimately it was a combo of Baytril and Penicillin injections that did…[Read more]

Hmm… yes, I think something else is definitely going on here. Although a dirty bottom and incontinence can be caused by a lot of things. Usually if syphilis is the reason, there are lesions in that area too. But you never know. At least now you know that you may need to do some detective work to figure out what’s going on with him. I would ask…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic 3rd eyelid torn by cat (Vet tomorrow, non emergency) in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 8 months ago
I have some experience with this. The treatment was antibiotics and pain meds. Eventually we had to go with steroid eye drops to get the inflammation down because he kept aggravating it. Steroids are generally not used in rabbits, but external ones (drops) as “less bad”. The third eyelid eventually healed, but it was never the same. There was…[Read more]

I’m sure he will get over it eventually. I know it’s hard to resist, but you really should allow him time to settle in his new home. You need to work on gaining his trust too. Picking him up and holding him, especially when you first bring him home, is going to be counterproductive.

He will get over it . Just give him time. He’s in a new environment. Give him a oxbow treat to gain his trust . Usually rabbits don’t like being picked up.
