Yes, I am planning to get her spayed. I lost one to uterine cancer this year and am not keen on letting it happen again. She lives in a large pen in my bedroom, I believe it’s six by four feet. We have two dogs and one cat outside of the bedroom. She has never seen either of the dogs (the room is down a hall with a pet gate so the dogs can’t get…[Read more]

yep i think so too, this morning her eye seemed a lot better and the 3rd eyelid isn’t visible anymore, the hair around it is just a little crusty from her wiping at it last night.

she is feeling much better today and is eating lots again, just seems tired from having such a long day yesterday. i gave her the first panacur dose today and she s…[Read more]

the vet gave me enough panacur for 2 weeks, i just gave her the first dose a few hours ago and she seems to be doing okay right now, she’s just napping. she’s pretty much back to normal and eating a ton again, just seems a little worn out from such a long day yesterday. i think what i’ll do is give the panacur for the 2 weeks and keep a close…[Read more]

Could it be scar tissue? It looks uneven in the photo.

Ok I feel better, I found a picture she sent me in May where he’s looking straight at the camera but his eye is cloudy. I wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t been looking for it. Maybe it’s a cataract and she just didn’t mention having him examined or I forgot! But since this picture is from May at least I know this didn’t just suddenly develop.…[Read more]

That’s the issue, it isn’t my rabbit, I’m bun sitting. Still waiting to hear back whether his eye is always like this but I will ask her to take him in Monday if the Dr hasn’t already looked at this. I wasn’t aware e cuni could cause eye issues so thank you for the info!

The third eyelid protruding can be due to stress too. I hope she is feeling better today and was able to calm down enough to eat on her own. As Dana said, vets will often treat for EC on suspicion. Panacur is safe and there should be no worry in treating her for EC even if she doesn’t actually have it.

This could be due to EC, a parasite. It’s a little hard to see in the picture though. How old is your rabbit, and did this occur very suddenly? Without any other symptoms I don’t think it’s an emergency but you should have your bun checked by a vet next week.

Panacur is very safe. It takes a long time to work, the recommended course is 28 days at 20 mg/kg. Since EC tests are unreliable many vets will treat on suspicion. It can take 2 weeks or more to see an improvement. Some vets will also give an anti-inflammatory med at first because a lot of the symptoms are due to inflammation.

    If she doesn’t…[Read more]

I am rabbit sitting and immediately noticed that one eye only looks like this. I texted my friend to see if it always looks like this because she hasn’t mentioned it. It doesn’t seem irritated or like it’s runny or anything. There are no emergency vets here that take rabbits on the weekend so I’m trying to decide whether I need to call the regular…[Read more]

update: i just got back from the vet and they said that she seems healthy. they said there can be many different causes for a seizure, one being E cuniculi, so they gave me some panacur to give her once a day for a while just in case she has it even though they don’t see any other symptoms of it. they also gave me another medicine to give her if s…[Read more]

I agree it sounds like a seizure and the willow is probably unrelated! Keep us posted on what the vet thinks! The first thing that comes to mind is EC, which is treatable!

This definitely sounds like a seizure. At least from what you’re describing anyway. I think the willow and seizure are just a coincidence though. I’m glad you’re on your way to the vet. Keep us updated on what’s going on!

About an hour ago my rabbit suddenly ran out of her hideout while she was napping and fell on her side and started flopping and twisting around and freaking out. I kept trying to pick her up but she was moving around so much I couldn’t get a good hold on her. Finally after like 10 or 15 seconds it ended and she seems to be able to walk fine now b…[Read more]

Are you planning to get her spayed? That should help a lot. It does sound like this is hormonal in nature based on her age but there could be some other things contributing.

Can you give some more details about her housing set-up, other pets in the house, and how you normally interact with her (handling, petting, etc)?

I’m very sorry you lost your rabbit. It is true that it’s important to spay female rabbits, but it seems you filled her life with love for as long as you were together.

Pets can’t be replaced. But we can open our hearts and homes to other pets. I think I understand what you mean about wanting to bond at the same time as you fear becoming close. I…[Read more]

@JaydenGirgi If your bun’s eye is red and has a white blob your bun needs to see a vet. There’s not much you can do yourself, I’m afraid.

It was March. My rabbit, a Dutch named Bluebelle, was five. I got her when I was twelve. I didn’t spay her. I didn’t know I was supposed to, and even after I started asking about it, family members assured me she was fine, there was no reason to, she was too old. I got her as a show rabbit for 4-H, but we were almost inseparable. She was alw…[Read more]

Until fairly recently, my english lop baby had been very sweet. She would occasionally bite and tug at clothes, but that was it, really. It feels worth mentioning that she is nearing the six month mark. She is my second rabbit—my first was a Dutch who was always incredibly friendly, so I have no experience with this. She has since become s…[Read more]
