It depends on where you live though. In the US, Revolution cannot be purchased over the counter. As Bam said though, it is safe to treat for mites on suspicion. The photos don’t necessarily look like ear mites. The area does look read. If it’s flaking, it could be ringworm or something.

Thank you all, so encouraging to read your replies! It sounds like it is doable after all, and I’m so excited 🙂
To clarify, the barred side of the porch is only barred halfway to the roof. Is that a problem? I’ve never seen birds of prey in our area, and if there are some, would they come into a mostly-enclosed area after the rabbits? (It’s…[Read more]

Oxford red bag rabbit pellets is a high quality rabbit feed. If you want to you can of course transition your buns to Garden Select when they’re about to finish your current red bag. You mix the old pellets with the new with more and more of the new pellets over say a week. But the red bag feed is quite fine.

It does look a bit red.

Revolution (selamectin)  is considered rabbit safe, and it is the best antiparastic for treatment of rabbit mites. It’s a spot-on, which means you apply it on the skin between the rabbit’s shoulderblades. Rabbits can’t reach to lick between their shoulder blades. You can treat with Revolution on suspicion of mites, but in…[Read more]

Hi everyone. I’m hoping someone can help me out. I have a 7 month old Holland Lop. She’s an only bun, kept indoors in a clean environment. I take care of her like she’s my own child. 3 days ago I noticed the inside of her ears appeared to have a red rash. I keep a check on her ears and fur so this time when I checked it looked a bit red to me. S…[Read more]

I am using oxbow adult rabbit feed the red bag. I was wondering if that is healthy because I know it has cane molasses and was not sure. Should I switch them to the garden select by oxbow or is it ok to use what I am using? Any help is greatly appreciated because I just want to keep them healthy.

I have a 7 year old and we have had our 2 bunnies for over a year now. My daughter for the most part does well with them as far as petting them gently. Sometimes she gets a little rough with them and they will let her know because they growl at her.

my daughter knows she can’t pick them up. She helps me sometimes with getting them in their c…[Read more]

I definitely agree with adopting an adult or bonded pair of adults. You will get a much better idea of their personality. Babies are like a box of chocolates.

Since the bunnies are for YOU, I think it would be OK to set them up so your kids can only have supervised interactions with them. An enclosed porch or sunroom is fine as long as it’s…[Read more]

Hi! Yes I am thinking the 6 hour, 4 day ride is better. Tibby our bunny seems to adjust to places well once she is there, so hopefully staying at hotels for 3 nights will help her over the long drive. We will be taking a longer break so she has time to destress and hopefully eat, etc… I am sure shes going to do well, I just get so nervous about…[Read more]

Thanks for the comments, Em. As both bunnies are having a similar issue I assume this is caused by an infection or something environmental as opposed to a physical problem.

They’ve started a course of Doxycycline so hopefully that will clear up the problem.

I don’t know if this applies to your kids but since you mentioned dwarf buns, pay attention to the bun’s body type. I have a bun who even most adult men are afraid to handle because he is very small boned. Very easy for a small oops or non-delicate hand to harm him.

Also, spend enough time with the buns beforehand to understand their temperament.…[Read more]

I would just go with 6 hour rides over 4 days, making sure breaks you take are not just 5min, but are ample enough to provide opportunity for eating and such if your rabbit is able to. The fact that you’re staying in hotels makes me far less concerned about the trip overall as that’s enough time for a rabbit to decently destress and poop and eat…[Read more]

Hi! I need some advice because I want to be sure I create the least stressful situation for my rabbit. My husband and I are moving from Colorado to South Carolina very soon. The drive is about 24 hours. I already bought my bunny a carrier where she will comfortably be able to move around and that will be strapped into the seat next to me, levelled…[Read more]

It’s awesome you are doing the research BEFORE getting buns! I think that sounds like a good space for them if you can include the considerations that Bam mentioned (climate control in the winter and summer, predators, pests, etc). I wouldn’t worry too much about breed… small buns and large buns both need space to run so you don’t need to…[Read more]
