prince dorian the bun replied to the topic what to feed a bunny in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 4 months ago
As everyone said, first and most important is unlimited hay. I have been doing just timothy since Dorian was 6months old (he’s just over a year now), though some people mix it up. The size of your bun will determine the amount of pellets, it’s a good idea if you can, to have a wellness check up with a rabbit savvy vet when you get your bun and you…[Read more]

You can try offering hay in new ways so see if that helps, but dental issues can appear as a subtle change in diet preferences. I had a dental bun that would ravenously eat everything except hay when his teeth were bothering him. I think because he wasn’t eating his hay he was extra hungry for everything else. If you hold out a fresh strand to her…[Read more]

I’ve actually been having similar troubles, except for the litter box thing, the way I’ve been getting my bun to nibble on more hay is by giving him smaller amounts that are a little bit fresher, and by making toys with hay and treats inside. Moving around toys and fun things help get my bun interested in them, and as long as you don’t move too…[Read more]

toilet paper rolls stuffed with hay are a fun one. I have a “diggy” box filled with shredded paper, basically a card board box with two holes cut in for entrance and exit, filled with packing paper I just shredded in ribbons. It has some pinecones and what ever other toy he decides to drag in it too. Lately he has decided that he wants to run…[Read more]

I bet that’s it! They are prey animals so being on the jumpy side is a survival instinct, the fact he comes back means he thinks you are safe ๐ .

Hello, recently Rain has been eating less hay, and Iโm pretty sure itโs because sheโs gotten used to just expecting pellets and veggies all the time since whenever we need her to do something iโll give her like two or three pellets. Ive realized even in small amounts giving pellets multiple times a day is a bad idea because the furball doesnt…[Read more]

Perhaps he’s feeling territorial now that this new home feels like it might be “permanent”. You said you were apartment hopping. I wonder if he never really settled into any of these places.

I agree with Dana. Caution should be used if grooming with a furminator brush. Bald patches from over grooming should grow back just fine. Dana gave some good suggestions for brushes. Hopefully you can find something that works.
How bad are her sore hocks? Are they open sores or just calluses that are irritated? I’m doubting her sore hocks are…[Read more]

The groom zoom is a softish rubber groomer. It makes kind of a mess but seems to work pretty well at loosening undercoat fur. If you google it you will find some pictures. The fur buster comb also works well but you still need to be careful with delicate bunny skin.
How old is she? And how bad are her hocks? Are they red and open or just bald…[Read more]

How long have you been in your new place? I agree it sounds territorial, maybe from traveling so much and being in a lot of new homes?
Any new smells in the new place? Maybe living with a new human triggered something as well?
Generally the recommendation is to restrict his space a bit until his litter box habits return, then gradually give him…[Read more]

Even though he is neutered I believe this is territorial marking. Although he has been in the new place before, and territorial behavior is significantly reduced with neutering, it still occurs with some rabbits. He’s probably in the new places running free, thinking how everything smells new, and just wants the place to smell like him. Because of…[Read more]

Hay, DanaNM,
Thanks so much for getting back to me! I do hand pluck the tufts, but she is just a year old, so I don’t have to do that much. I’ve even tried my lint roller, but it doesn’t actually groom her the way I want it to. What’s the kong groom zoom? No, I haven’t been consulting a vet about her weight or sore hocks. We live in the Middle…[Read more]

Hey! So, my bun Pavus is about 3 years old and neutered! He’s been littertrained and sure, he has an accident every couple of months or so but nothing major. Now I’ve moved in with my partner, and we’re in a much larger space so he can get the run of the apartment, the backyard, and the common space. ๐ The problem is… now he’s peeing…[Read more]

MID-DAY UPDATE:ย Hunny just pooped and peed again for the first time since last night. Not anywhere close to the normal looks or amounts, but at least it’s something! Tried offering my girl a piece of hay. She showed interest in it but couldn’t chew it for some reason. The piece just kept falling out of her mouth, untouched. It’s like the “grasp…[Read more]

I kinda think Bonnie and Myra almost look like photo-negatives of each other. Except the ears!ย You can’t see her feet in the pic but Bonnie has light feet, with one of her front feet totally white.

Bam replied to the topic Weird Patch On Bun Ears in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years, 4 months ago
I would guess the bald patch is where a canula was inserted for the surgery. Many vets prefer to place a line into the bun’s ear in case something happens during anaesthesia. My bun had to have blood drawn from his ear for a blood test, it resulted in a bald patch. The hair grew back just fine.
