I don’t think it was either, looked larger than a roundworm and maggot, but I found where the eggs were and I’ll be checking that area (under my rabbit’s litter box) more often. My rabbits underside and anus were dry and I didn’t see any blood on his fur, so I think I avoided whatever it was.

I’m so sorry for your loss and for such a traumatic passing. 🙁 I’ve had two buns pass similarly (not the same illness but the final moments) and it is so so horrible.
Thank you for sharing the info about the disease, I’ve never heard of Tyzzer’s and I think this information will certainly help other rabbit owners.
I hope your other buns can…[Read more]

In that case unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend attempting bonding. Her hormones will trigger even a neutered male to mount her too much.
However, she could really benefit from another rabbit living next door as a neighbor, so if you have space for 2 separate buns you could look into that. You could also provide her with a stuffy to snuggle with.

Since there isn’t much info online about this disease, I’ll write a little here. They found he had Tyzzer’s afterwards. I assume his immune system got knocked out (within the past couple years, he had many other issues too, including EC) and it gradually took his little body out.
He was at least 8+ y/o and didn’t have diarrhea. Related symptoms…[Read more]

The vet doesn’t want to spray her with her injury, i had got her she had an injury to her spine believe from being dropped. I will ask about bonding. No im not aware of any rescues near me.

Are you sure it was a maggot? Could it have been a round worm that came from your bunny? People will often see them wiggling on their bunny’s poop.
As for fly strike, yes, it is very serious so you want to make absolutely sure there are no maggots on your bunny. Having a vet take a closer look is not a bad idea.
That being said, depending on the…[Read more]

Is your female also spayed? Both rabbits need to be castrated for bonding to be successful. I agree it would be better to try with a male. Do you know how she became paralyzed? I think in this case it would be important to find a good match and talk to your vet to make sure your rabbit is well enough for bonding. You would want to take things very…[Read more]

I have a paralyzed doe. About 5-6 months. She is very social/loving. I’ve heard it’s a good thing to have a disabled bunny a friend. I was told two females can have dominance issues but a buck will try and mate with her. I will get the buck neutered ofc but will this still be an issue. Should my bunny have a pal?

It is safest to take the bun to a vet. Flystrike is very serious and the maggot must have come from somewhere. You need to inspect the butt area very closely, with a magnifying glass, and in good light. Also check for wounds or patches of wet fur.

I was opening my rabbit’s cage to check on him when I noticed that there was something wriggling in his dung. When I looked at it closer I found it was a maggot. I:
Double checked my rabbit for maggots around his underside, focusing on his anus
Took him out of his cage into a enclosure
Cleaned out his cage and filled it with new sawdust
He…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Itchy ear in the forum BEHAVIOR 2 years, 4 months ago
If this has been going on for some time, I would think the presence of mites would be more noticeable. When an infestation starts, you usually can’t see much of anything. As time goes by though, you will start to see other signs like redness, flakes, and crust.
Bunnies are like people. Some people have sticky earwax and some have dry earwax. I’ve…[Read more]

Sorry for the late reply, but I’ve decided that we’re going to get her ear checked out by the vet soon. When I got her checked a while ago, they didn’t see anything and it must have been random, but whatever has been going on these past few days has actually been in the same ear which has never happened before. It used to be random and switch off,…[Read more]
