Wick & Fable replied to the topic Unneutered male rabbits in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years, 1 month ago

My Wick seemed to reach puberty later than usual boys, but alas it still did change him, though the balls didn’t’ stick around long enough for me to know its full scope. His testes descended at 8mo. Prior to then, aside from bad litter habits (which he still has, but eh), he was very docile and cuddly. He is still in fact, and that hasn’t changed.…[Read more]

My first rabbit Bam was fully adult and intact when I found him. He showed no adverse behaviors fir the first full year I had him -then one day, after a little over a year, it was like a switch was flipped. He fell hopelessly in love with my GSD dog, became totally obsessed with following her around, and with peeing and pooping on her favorite…[Read more]

Thank you so much for the replies. I’m pretty sure it’s a little boy, but its testicles haven’t dropped yet, so he’s somewhere under 4 months. And he most definitely has grown even since I’ve had him, making me a little nervous about how big he’s going to get. Lol. I’m planning on taking him into the vet within the next week if no one claims him…[Read more]

It might be a bit far for you in NH but I take my bunny to Park Place Veterinary Hospital in Swanzey NH. They have been nothing but wonderful with Starlight and seem to know a lot about bunnies.

Back to square 1 with reduced territory slowly opening it up. If you can add a litter box (if you haven’t already) in the open area that may help as well as he may be more willing to go there than to go all the way back home. I would suggest, if at all possible with arranging pens, to start with the largest area you know he can responsibly handle…[Read more]

To be honest it depends more on the individual rabbit than the breed, and regardless of whether the little man is aggressive, he will definitely have better litter habits and most likely be more chill.

I just want to update this because I’m just screaming on the inside. I’ve kept him between his crate, and outside, those being his “safe” spaces, and the house in general just being a place to get from point A to point B. I’ve fed him in his crate. His crate is “his place”… and have been ever so slowly, ever since… been acclimating him.…[Read more]

So I’m considering getting a single male Holland lop and read that neutering won’t necessarily do much for them since they are not known to be aggressive anyway.

Anyone have experience specifically with unneutered male Holland lops?

I just googled and saw something saying that all parts of the Clover are bunny safe but it can cause gas. If it’s a very small amount it should be ok.

So I got both of mine neutered young but my friend got hers neutered at like 3 years old. Before the neuter he marked a lot around the house, was not as affectionate and generally just wasn’t that well behaved. She said that after the neuter his behavior was much more friendly, he was better about using the litter box and just wasn’t quite as…[Read more]

Okay thanks! So this hay is good for an adult bun? Should I take out the clover when I see it or is it okay for buns to have? There’s about one or two clover flowers/stems per large handful of hay. Is that an okay amount?

I don’t have kids so I can’t attest to taking care of a baby and a bunny. However, rabbits are a lot of work. They seem like a quiet pocket pet that doesn’t need much looking after, but the truth is quite the opposite. There’s a lot of cleaning involved, they need hours of playtime each day, the area they have access to has to be bunny proofed. If…[Read more]

My starlight has decided to become a fussy hay eater again. For awhile she would eat oxbow but all of a sudden refused and even spit out any oxbow variety, I switched to kaytee timothy but lately she’s not so interested in hay again. She is eating fine with her other food and a good amount of poop so i know she isn’t sick. So, what brand of…[Read more]

You never know how bad your bun will get until it happens, but lots of of unneutered males turn into pooping and peeing tornadoes (literally they will twist in midair spraying urine all around them), territorial aggression is common as well. As has been said, neutering is done to curb hormonal behaviors, for the purpose of bonding and to reduce…[Read more]

My friend was given a male rabbit from her parents when she was younger, and unfortunately hasn’t been able to get him neutered yet (she is saving up though). Her rabbit has a severe issue with spraying, and sprays constantly. He also has issues with various types of agression (he can be both food agressive and cage agressive). His litter box h…[Read more]

I know this is hard to except when they are gone. It’s hard to break out of the intense mode you’ve been in the past few weeks nursing her & worrying. It is very common for rabbits to go through a period of exaggerated hormonal behavior post spay/neuter. Hormonal behaviours like pee- and poopmarking, territoriality and aggression can be seen for quite some time after, especially in girl rabbits.

The important thing is to differentiate this normal spay aftermath from aggression that is due to…[Read more]
