Nina S started the topic Do bunnies get sick often? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years, 1 month ago

    Hi again 👋

Before adopting my first bunny, I wanted to come on here again and ask all you bunny owners one more question: What is the likelihood of a bunny getting sick? Do they get sick easily/often or can it be avoided by giving it the proper care?

Specifically looking to adopt a male Holland lop, not sure if that makes a difference.

    Thanks…[Read more]

Young rabbits should get “unlimited” pellets while they’re growing. It’s okay to leave their food bowl empty for a couple of hours each day though, to make sure they eat plenty of hay as well. 🙂

They only need one source of Alfalfa, either hay or pellets. I’ve found that switching them to Timothy pellets is easier than switching them to Timothy…[Read more]

    Yay, go Teddy! 😀

I totally get your concern, that’s too bad about the potential side effects. 🙁 Odd that the vet prescribed milk thistle together with the cisapride if it might create a problem. Maybe he didn’t know? I’m interested to hear what he says about the CBD as well.

So glad he’s feeling better today! 🙂

@Hazel LOL! Three bunnies are a LOT harder than one! Three bun butts bouncing all over the place, and one poor and innocent hoomin trying to chase after them all, to calm them down and get a snuggly pic? I hope you all know how hard this is going to be for me, and I will welcome any sympathy that comes my way! LOL 😆

    And that’s a dollar for the no-pictures-jar! 😆

Well it’s not my fault, the lighting is so bad in the bunny room! 🙄

And it’s more difficult for me because I only have one bun, HipHop has three, so… 😛

Thank you so much, Kate!  You’re the best!!

I’m still waiting for a vet callback about the medicine interactions, but meanwhile some great news: the full panel of bloodwork came back normal!! 😀  Plus Teddy’s been eating much much better since last night.  We’re so grateful!!

I agree, don’t worry too much about what the owner said. There could be a million reasons why he’s acting the way he is, and if it’s caused by the way the owner is handling him, he likely won’t admit to that.

Oscar was quite cage and food aggressive for a while. I found the best way to deal with it was to not react at all. If he attacked my hand…[Read more]

Bam! Thank you for the reply! Just now I saw him sitting up with weight on his back legs. He’s better every minute.
It’s good to know there’s other cases of similar things.

when I search “rabbit stroke” I Only find info on EC and heatstroke so it’s hard to get information.

i hope the vet will know something. I’m scared she won’t know how to hold him even

Hello everyone. I have had my newly adopted bunny Lola, for two days now. I am very confused about the number of pellets to feed her? She is only 4 months so the pellets she eats are young rabbit oxbow pellets. Everyone has told me a different amount to feed her.  Currently she has 1/4 cup pellets once a day. Is that the right amount? I am going…[Read more]

    Hello Everyone.

Has anyone had a rabbit who had recovered from a dislocated hip? I haven’t found many stories of any rabbits and their ecovery after they get it popped back into place.

My rabbit Mable(lion head lop) who is a little over 2 years now suffered from a dislocated hip(left hip) in late May of this year. She had just underwent surgery…[Read more]

Rabbits can have strokes. They can also get a parasite called e cuniculi, which affects the central nervous system. Rabbits dont really tend to recover from e cuniculi without treatment, so in this respect it sounds more like a stroke.
