DanaNM replied to the topic Can anyone recommend if any of these products are a suitable replacement for hay in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years ago

Yes Orchard is just as good, so hopefully that works out. Any grass hay would be suitable (oat and rye are other options).

I adopted Bun Jovi when he was 9, and he is the love of my life. I say go for it!

Sorry no one has responded to this yet!

I don’t have too much personal experience with this, but there was a bun at the rescue I volunteer at that couldn’t really use one of his back hind legs. It seemed like it had broken in the past and not been set properly, so it just kind of stuck out to the side and didn’t help him hop at all. He seemed…[Read more]

    How is she doing now?

You mentioned a temp change, is she molting heavily?

I can’t remember if you’ve already addressed this, but has she had a dental exam? Molar spurs, even tiny ones, can cause enough pain to cause stasis. There is a feedback between pain and stasis. Pain causes stasis, which causes more pain, etc.

@DanaNM LOL bunnies can definitely be bossy! Ear plugs are a good idea but I always wear headphones at night so I can watch and listen to stuff while I fall asleep. You’d think that would drown out the noise but nope! I’ve ended up just taking out Pinky’s hidey house and log house. He mostly just sits and poops on top of that house anyway lol.…[Read more]

Hey guys, I am moving and will be transporting my rabbit with me in the car. I am going to have a 19” carrier for her, but I want to make sure she has constant supply of water as it will be about a 6 hour drive. If I put a bowl in the crate she will surely knock it over in frustration. I wanted to get one of those water bottles that hangs on a…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Do bunnies get sick often? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years ago

Agree with what’s been said so far, it really depends on the bun. Some buns have tons of problems, other’s never need to see a vet a day in their life.

As with dogs, poor breeding can lead to problems. Dental problems are especially common in netherland dwarfs, lops, and seems like lionheads are joining the ranks as well.

    Many of the common…[Read more]

@PrinceDorian Thank you! What a cute photo with his face in the basket LOL. I love the cat tunnel. I’ve been looking for one! I have the biggest cat litter boxes I can find right now lol. What kinds of rabbit toys do you use? I mostly give them cardboard tp tubes and cardboard toys I make. They’ve also got some toy balls from the pet store. Thanks. 🙂

I could be mistaken, but I believe the next time we contact the vet will be when we run out of chloramphenicol, which should be in about a week or so. It’s just so scary during Hunny’s “lows,” and so exhilarating during her “highs.” I want to make sure I’m doing all I can for my girl; I’m so proud of her.

I guess the best thing to do is take…[Read more]

PrinceDorian: LOL Yes, I will have to do a bonding thread with Smokey and her hippo. She beats it up a lot but makes up for it in grooms. 😆  Dorian should meet Smokey, they both have so many things in common. 😉 Let’s put them on a blind date and see how it goes, eh? 😆 Agreed, we need more photos of Oscar, Wick, and Fable, Dorian,…[Read more]

Maybe the easiest thing would be to get some soft ear plugs? 🙂

My buns are super loud… I think I’ve just gotten used to the noises they make at night for the most part.

Also you can tell who’s in charge at my place… I end up adjusting my own behavior and let the buns do their thing LOL

I didn’t notice until I let Muffin out after Pinky that Pinky had left some poops on top of the carrier. Cause I picked it up and felt something wet and it smeared on my finger… They are wet and smelly. Not onion poops though. He was eating his cecotropes when he was sitting on it, could it be those? I thought they were smaller. The thing in t…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Constant, Reoccurring GI Stasis? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years ago

Sorry you are going through this, so stressful. 🙁

My suspicion is that her dental issues are related to the stasis troubles. Pain from dental issues can prevent proper eating, and also trigger stasis. Is she able to eat a lot of hay?

And does she get pain meds after her dental treatments?

Also wondering if the vet has done any x-rays?

    What…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Best cockroach remedy thats safe for bunny? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years ago

You could get roach baits and leave them in places where the rabbit can’t access.

Food grade diatomaceous earth might also help (you could sprinkle in around the areas with a lot of roaches, such as under fridge and over, around trash bins, etc.).

Hey guys thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I can’t easily get these things tested right now due to the covid situation. I just know the hay I’d always been feeding her suddenly gives me asthma attacks to the point I had to stop giving it entirely. I am trying to find the solution that keeps her healthy for sure. Right now she has compressed…[Read more]

Her fur does not look like rex fur to me. Rex fur is very short and plush, it feels like velvet.

I use a larger cat box… I am not sure where you live but I got mine at a general pet store.

As for play areas, Dorian pretty much just free roam, he does have a couple of tubes and a card board box in the living room (one of the tubes get’s put out on the deck for when he has access to that area) and then there are rabbit toys pretty much…[Read more]

Thanks for the update! It sounds like Hunny is hanging in there. The back and forth may be due to the antibiotics. Did the vet recommend a probiotic? Perhaps that would help keep things stable within the gut.

When will the vet see her again to see if the antibiotics are working?
