Hey guys, I am moving and will be transporting my rabbit with me in the car. I am going to have a 19” carrier for her, but I want to make sure she has constant supply of water as it will be about a 6 hour drive. If I put a bowl in the crate she will surely knock it over in frustration. I wanted to get one of those water bottles that hangs on a…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Do bunnies get sick often? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years ago
Agree with what’s been said so far, it really depends on the bun. Some buns have tons of problems, other’s never need to see a vet a day in their life.
As with dogs, poor breeding can lead to problems. Dental problems are especially common in netherland dwarfs, lops, and seems like lionheads are joining the ranks as well.
Many of the common…[Read more]

@PrinceDorian Thank you! What a cute photo with his face in the basket LOL. I love the cat tunnel. Iโve been looking for one! I have the biggest cat litter boxes I can find right now lol. What kinds of rabbit toys do you use? I mostly give them cardboard tp tubes and cardboard toys I make. Theyโve also got some toy balls from the pet store. Thanks. ๐

I could be mistaken, but I believe the next time we contact the vet will be when we run out of chloramphenicol, which should be in about a week or so. It’s just so scary during Hunny’s “lows,” and so exhilarating during her “highs.” I want to make sure I’m doing all I can for my girl; I’m so proud of her.
I guess the best thing to do is take…[Read more]

PrinceDorian: LOL Yes, I will have to do a bonding thread with Smokey and her hippo. She beats it up a lot but makes up for it in grooms. ๐ย Dorian should meet Smokey, they both have so many things in common. ๐ Let’s put them on a blind date and see how it goes, eh? ๐ Agreed, we need more photos of Oscar, Wick, and Fable, Dorian,…[Read more]

Maybe the easiest thing would be to get some soft ear plugs? ๐
My buns are super loud… I think I’ve just gotten used to the noises they make at night for the most part.
Also you can tell who’s in charge at my place… I end up adjusting my own behavior and let the buns do their thing LOL

I didnโt notice until I let Muffin out after Pinky that Pinky had left some poops on top of the carrier. Cause I picked it up and felt something wet and it smeared on my finger… They are wet and smelly. Not onion poops though. He was eating his cecotropes when he was sitting on it, could it be those? I thought they were smaller. The thing in t…[Read more] -

Sorry you are going through this, so stressful. ๐
My suspicion is that her dental issues are related to the stasis troubles. Pain from dental issues can prevent proper eating, and also trigger stasis. Is she able to eat a lot of hay?
And does she get pain meds after her dental treatments?
Also wondering if the vet has done any x-rays?
What…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Best cockroach remedy thats safe for bunny? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years ago
You could get roach baits and leave them in places where the rabbit can’t access.
Food grade diatomaceous earth might also help (you could sprinkle in around the areas with a lot of roaches, such as under fridge and over, around trash bins, etc.).

Hey guys thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I can’t easily get these things tested right now due to the covid situation. I use a larger cat box… I am not sure where you live but I got mine at a general pet store.
As for play areas, Dorian pretty much just free roam, he does have a couple of tubes and a card board box in the living room (one of the tubes get’s put out on the deck for when he has access to that area) and then there are rabbit toys pretty much…[Read more]

Thanks for the update! It sounds like Hunny is hanging in there. The back and forth may be due to the antibiotics. Did the vet recommend a probiotic? Perhaps that would help keep things stable within the gut.
When will the vet see her again to see if the antibiotics are working?

I agree with Bam. Although not ideal, he should be fine eating timothy-based pellets and grass hay. He should be allowed to eat as much as he wants though (within reason, of course).

Have you been tested for allergies? They break it down by grass types. If you’re allergic to “grass”, it doesn’t necessarily mean you are allergic to all grass. Timothy seems to be the more common allergen out of the grass hays. People who are allergic to timothy often have better luck with orchard or oat.

I’m sorry to hear that Bladesmith. I was hoping Dawn would be doing better. Bacterial infections can cause seizures. My understanding was it was a less common cause. Oh also if anyone knows where to find a big litter box or bin that would be great. I looked at stores in my town for storage bins but none were wide enough for Muffin. There were long ones but not the best width. I want him to be able to sit horizontally and vertically, since thatโs what he always does but he stands halfway in a lot… Thank you.
